Something to consider... Russia to sell 20-50 T gold in 2009 I may hold off on my 2009 Proof Gold Buffalo purchase until I see if this news effects the gold price (Mint's price brackets).
Here's the direct link to the Buff purchase page for when we rev up our browsers next Thursday! http://catalog.usmint.gov/webapp/wc...10001&storeId=10001&productId=16049&langId=-1
Thanks Argento! It might be a good time for everyone to double check their credit card expiration date registered with the US Mint as well. I'm still gonna order one, but I'm afraid it won't be as rare as the 2008. A few weeks ago I had a gut feeling mintage would be very low, but I don't have that feeling anymore. I also wish they had left gold coins on the subscription list.
You're likely right, Charlie, mintage will be high. There will still be some time in the first weeks where we can nail the fools with First Strike and what have you but then it'll be similar to how the UHR is now, I presume.
I noticed one thing in the Reuters article that stated "Why would they accommodate the international market when their own central bank is trying to buy gold?" It's anybody's guess if it will happen, or if it will effect prices. How many '09 Buffalo Proofs are you planning to buy krispy?
After reading the post above all have made good valid points. With gold now at a base of over $1000 usd. I don't see gold dropping anytime soon! With the devaluation of the USD and the world economy in general...what worries me the most is that all gold and silver coins be they MS/PF/ or bullion issues becomming just that.....bullion! What if and this is just off the top of my head a 1911 D quarter eagel gold coin content worth more that the coins numismatic value? The same could happen to any coin be they key coins made from gold or silver......or any other PM. for that matter. As for the U.S. mint supply of platchets be they gold or silver the mint is not going to supply and mint coins well out of the public reach.... My feeling there is going to be a major correction in PM. Maybe not below a 1000.usd but some where near that bench mark. With so many factors stearing the price of PM daily "ie price of crude oil " the stock market etc.....who knows when this correction will occur....? My plan if my pocket book allows is to make wise and small purchases in PM at this time. I think of this in a funny way.....you walk out of the house in the morrning with lets say a $20 bill...next stop a coffee or what ever.....once you break the 20 you just about done for the most part....well I am...LOL I try to buy smaller amounts and sizes of PM that way if forced to sell or need to sell I won't need to break a 20 and loose the change. just a few thoughts......after all I purchased both the MS & PF buffalo sets and sent back the proof set....duh! Hinde sight is always 20/20......its a crap shoot sometimes lady luck smiles sometimes she don't!:rolling: I was so up set to see the end of the proof ASE's as well as the fractional buffalos and the other set and coins scraped by the mint. I believe right now maybe more than ever people are in the hording phase .....those of us who know history well will tell you it's a smart thing to do! Just my 2 cents....Paddy
One please, but probably I will not buy on release day. I don't expect a sell out in the first week. I'd like to see a weeks worth of estimated sales figures before placing an order. If I miss it I won't worry, there's plenty of other fun stuff out there and 2010 around the corner. If I buy 09 Pr AGB, then I may try to wait a couple weeks, but place an order prior to 'black friday'.
Let's hope, though I did notice the price is no longer to be determined. Looks like $1360 is the opening price.
Well its 5 hours until start time and I'm sitting here at my pc ready to order..... Been to the Mints website.....still $1360. 4 hours and 51 minutes to go.....aaaahhhhh its killing me....:crying: This will be the longest 4 hrs and 49 minutes in my life.....:kewl:
Yeah, I don't mind spending an extra $50 to get it over with. They might run out early and have to make more and ship weeks from now. I will be sending mine to PCGS for grading. Need to get it in early for the FIRST STRIKE label. My FS PF Buffalo set (2006-W thru 2008-W) is ranked #12 in the world, thats why I get the FS label.
I have never really messed around with building sets... but how would your set be ranked 12th... what makes one set better or worse assuming they are all pf70s. Also ive never sent a coin to PCGS, can I do this though a local dealer whos a member or do I need to be a member as well? thanks for the heads up
Boxer you can join PCGS for only $50 per year and do it yourself. As far as rankings, there are 11 sets (all 70s) that are tied for first. These are ranked 1-11, mine is the first and only complete set of 69s ranked #12. I can't keep up with the big boys and their 70s.....they rule !!!
ahhh well congrats on the set! Im trying to hang with the big boys, but my 2006 had flaws even at pf70 status so I had to sell and now im looking for a new one. It will take me a damn long time, but it will happen! I see some PCGS buffalos with flags on the slab, and I see yours with a freaking buffalo which is extra sweet. Who picks these logos? extra cost?
