I think it's fair to start a thread with a list of everyone' favorite, most respect, and fair priced websites they buy coins and bullion from. Here's my #1 APMEX.com Then would come Heritage.com and then Ebay. Yours?
That's the best anyone can hope for.The greatness of the coin is far, far more important that a "bargain" price. For a long time, I didn't believe it. I thought folks were just trying to get more money from me. But I believe it now. Be patient. Hold out for the good stuff. Be willing to pay a little premium for a truly excellent coin. Don't be afraid to pull the trigger when the time is right.
I have bought more coins from Heritage than any other single source, but not "from the website" per se. I inspect 'em personally when I can, either at Dallas or at the auction site. Heritage is much, much more than a website, though I gotta say their website is really terrific. If you're gonna buy from a website, insist on 100% money back guarantee - no questions asked.
Sites I use - besides heritage and ebay: http://www.largecents.net/forsale.php http://www.earlycoppercoins.com/id8.htm http://www.hcraig.com/catalog/default.php?cPath=21_37 http://www.thepennylady.com/ http://www.harlanjberk.com/unitedstatesco/cnus.asp http://www.vtcoins.com/ http://www.nfccoins.com/ There are some others I check all the time but they have not had anything at a price I wanted to pay. Never had a problem with any of them. Now the fair prices piece can be disputed, but I like them.
PS - I think I have another 20 or so from this site that I have book marked. Like executive coin company - usually buy from them on ebay.
A list of recomended ebay sellers would be very helpful if anyone has any favorites. Personally, I love coinworldtv's listings. Not US coins and he is in Austria but he has some amazing coins that I would otherwise never be exposed to. He also has great pics and great information about the history around the coin and the time period in which it circulated. Here is an example: http://cgi.ebay.com/1595-Archduke-Ferdinand-II-Silver-Thaler-Alsace-Mint_W0QQitemZ110448918285QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item19b744bf0d
Has anyone looked ion the "Coin Resources" section? There is a whole list there. http://www.cointalk.com/t14152/
Hi, I would not only visit all the sites listed in this thread, but I would also keep an eye on Craigslist. I feel craigslist has a small advantage. You can visit the person selling the coins to get a good look before you buy if the seller is in your area. If the seller is not in your area, you can talk with him about shipping it to you. Hope this helps. Matt
PennyLady posted this thread which has a link to the CU Forum where a very good list is kept up to date of all dealer websites and other great coin-related resources. That list on the CU Forum is a must add to your favorites!! http://www.cointalk.com/t57162/
Heritage Auctions is at coins.HA.com; heritage.com isn't us, although we wish it were. Many thanks for the mention, by the way!
These are great choices because of the great people behind them. I think that's the paradigm shift that's needed - don't think of "great sites", think people. There are many more of course... since all three of the above are copperheads, google Tom Reynolds, Doug Bird, Bob Grellman, and Chris McCawley. That's some serious copper, right there.
Yes they are. I only listed those I have purchased from - and most of them with coins for sale web sites I just have booked marked. I also have http://www.900fine.com/ book marked also - I think this is your site. You never know where you might find the next coin.
I've said this before when this subject comes up. It is really risky to even ask that since those that see such lists may go there, purchase something and have a really bad experience. I've seen this many times. Some of the problems are that some have a great experience many a long time ago and still state that place is great not really knowing what it is like presently. Also, you also don't know if the individual mentioning a place may in fact work there and they really are a lousy place. Then too, it works in reverse. A new place may have had several bad situations due to just starting out and now are really either OK or even better than many others. Companies change due to personal, locations, the economy, product availability and may other possibilities. I've at times recommended some place or product that was OK with me and it back fired due to the person I mentioned this too had a really bad experience. Then too I've heard many run a place down that I thought turned out great. There is a web site mentioned here that I already have had a really, really bad, horrible experience with. Yet others may have had either recent or past better situations. Forums like this are great for such information but everyone should remember that you really don't know who is saying what here or anywhere on the internet.
