http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5xnIFzP2bTY&feature=player_embeddedIt seems there are now some food and supply stores in the U.S. that are now taking silver for payment!. I couldn't believe such a thing yet existed but I guess its a glimpse into the near future in our country! I wanted to share this video of this store so we can see how these transactions for needed goods will work. You will see that shortly after this video was posted on U Tube someone with power caused his U Tube account to be suspended! Check out the comments posted. ( I wonder who wouldn't want this to be viewed?) I guess somebody doesn't want us to get any funny ideas. Fortunately the video was posted elsewhere and saved for others to view! Its worth watching so check it out! This store is located in California. ENJOY!

Oh Lordy me. Finally, a place where I can spend my "scrap" gold. Does this store accept US funny money?

I think they're merely jumping on the inflated metals bandwagon, nothing more. What do you suppose they're getting at the refiners when they take that silver to them.....cash? What a novel concept.

    Come on Yankee!

This guys kind of a meathead! They've proved nothing we don't already know about PMs and yet they seem to be operating in terms of dollars and cents, "cash 4 gold" style values for their "scrap." Not sure why, but he did get nickels in change for his scrap silver right? Then later we see him selling PMs for currency… what's that about? How is using nickels and paper currency alongside PMs the 'future' if dollars failed? Or was he suggesting currency and PMs will coexist after all? He's just not clear at all in his demo jumping around far too much in his casual 'real-life' style with what he's suggesting the future may be like. Why does he leave a brief case full of coins and PMs in his car seat? Hello! Why is he driving and doing a POV shot at the same time? I thought he was going to crash and get his car scraped for scrap to buy another one.

These guys need to work harder at being more precise with the actual changing market values to be accurate or they'll be debating with each customer what the price of PMs are to trade scrap at dollar values for everything they sell. Why do they use a white board instead of a live market chart on the internet?

The only enlightening thing about this is that it demonstrates how inefficient and slow things will be at the till manually computing things by scales, calculators and metal testers. If they even hope to sell any merchandise, they'll need to speed up the process since the check out queue will be longer than an angry crowded home center on a Saturday afternoon.

the smart idea is to allow trade for the PM's for supplies and keep the pm's for when inflation and or if the dollar weakens more especially since you are receiving them for a good size discount since a 8 pack of ballpark franks does not cost a store $3.25 and even if they give 13x face value for silver they pretty much get a silver quarter for say $1.89 or whatever said store has to actually pay for the hotdogs

    Not really a novel idea.

There was a guy around here years ago that would drop the price of gas if you paid with silver coinage. Sure he made a killing as he'd sell it to my now employer at a nice profit.

Is it risky? Yes, but if you have a buyer for a quick turnover you can make money on the metals alone. Now, factor that in with the markup on the goods purchased and he's REALLY making money.

Better off to sell your metals at a higher price THEN buy your groceries I would think.

I was referring to the store taking the silver to the refiner and trading it back for cash as the novel idea, with cheek in tongue, of course. It's the circle the doomsdayers fail to see somehow.

Because. I'm assuming the wholesaler where they buy the stores goods don't take silver as payment. I don't think think many retail buisinesses are in a possition to hang onto liquid assets and stay in business. Funny thing is I never saw that guy ring anything up. Where did he scan the bar codes? I think the video is about as authentic as me being abe Lincoln.

Didn't ring the transaction up? Hum sounds like a sales and income tax dodge to me. I bet inventory shrinkage is well above average in that store.

I am sorry so many here didn't like the video. I just thought it would be a interesting glimpse into the future. Others on this forum have speculated what it would be like if currency's failed and how people would barter and trade in a collapse of countries in the world and how important it would be to have silver and gold for trade purposes. I guess others didn't find the video thought provoking like I did. Let me apologise to all!

Don't apologize and idea is a good one , just that this one has been done before and goes on everyday , just that you have to make a stop wherever they sell pms first , now if they were trading food for bullets then that would be news ,

Beacause it would invalidate the scare factor if they outright said that , but it's the intelligent thing to do . Don't forget they are trading the pms at the going dollar rate . JMO

Yankee, don't apologize. You post what you want to. Say what you have to say and share what you think... We all replied what we felt. No worries! :thumb:

I agree, no apologies needed. It made for interesting conversation, and thats what we're here for. If we all agreed on everything this would be one heck of a boring site to visit.

I think this is pretty cool, though I agree with some others about how its not very practical since it takes so long and you are essentially getting US currency back instead of silver or gold.

I live close by though and now know of an easy place to sell my bullion! I want to try the place out just for fun anyways.
