Hi, I have seen a few of these popping up on ebay lately, but outside of ebay I can't find any information on them. Canadian Support Our Troops Maple Leaf http://cgi.ebay.ca/2009-SUPPORT-OUR...in_0?hash=item3355ab0075&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14 Canadian Pink Ribbon Maple Leaf http://cgi.ebay.ca/2009-PINK-RIBBON...in_0?hash=item3355ab00db&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14 They are listed as being limited to 300 and 500 coins, which seems extremely low compared to all of the other Royal Canadian Mint coins. Are they legit, or is someone making they from home?
Looks like they took a coin and painted on the yellow banner and colored the maple leaf, not an official mint release.
They really have not defaced the coin, just applied some paint to the surface. It is done all the time, Barrack Obama commemorative coins were done the same way ditto with some of the Micheal Jackson ones I have seen.
looks like crap to me... but in all seriousness collectors of maple leafs should be happy...it's like 800 maples were not minted so the prices of the good ones (not painted with crap on them) should go up in value from lack of supply
Im supprised these things are goin for $50-$70. I think people are buying them thinking they are getting a deal on a rare low mintage coin.
Don't know why you're suprised, it happens every day. People are constantly buying US Mint products and paying outrageous prices just because of the package it comes in. Then they'll say - but it only has a mintage of 25,000, or 50,000 - or whatever. Well, NO ! The mintage for the coin is probably in the millions. The only thing different about it is the package wrapped around it. Packaging options are not the same thing as mintage. And neither is paint apllied to coins :rolling:
