They sell the AE in a PCGS tube of 20 and unless you sell them in the tube how does it make them more valuable? https://www.apmex.com/Product/54284/2009_Silver_American_Eagles_Sealed_PCGS_20_Coin_Tubes.aspx Sorry if it was already posted and discussed.
They've been up for a couple weeks and I am curious as to what they will ask for them if silver drops to $12.50. Will it still be 360? (or whatever they are asking) If I buy and try to resell, do I just tell them they were in a PCGS tube and that is why they are $3 more? I'm not sure what to think.
Save your money and buy 'em from an on line company in a plastic mint holder. You'll save a ton o' dough and still get the same quality.
The premium is way too high IMO even if the price of silver drops. As a bullion investment, and these are bullion, not Proof, it doesn't seem the way to proceed. I'd sooner buy a regular mint tube of 20 at the price break the site offers when buying in bulk, pay by check and wait the two business weeks for the check to clear for the best price from APMEX. M-a-y-b-e if the PCGS tube sealed ASEs were from a low mintage year and at some point far, far in the future when ASEs could be discontinued and in demand, then you were to break them out and have each coin slabbed, you might finally realize some numismatic value over the future price of bullion. Seems there are other sealed coins out there that will do better, value wise, in the future than BU ASEs. This item just seems too HSN-like to me. Just my 2¢ on this. I'm curious to learn what other replies may be able to tell me/us about these.
OK, it is 351.80 for the PCGS tube vs 329.80 for the mint tube. How do I get a customer to pay the difference. The tube is sonically sealed so I assume they will need to buy them all. Does anybody see a consumer walking into a brick and mortar and paying it. Do not take this as a slam at APMEX, I buy from them and will continue to do so, just curious what others thought.
Add to that the APMEX shipping for that price range: $12.95 + 3% if paying by something other than check. You're not going to resell those for a profit with your shops markup.
Do you think they will let you pick the color of the writing on the "nice pretty tube" or is that "their choice"? I tried to see if I can get a closeup of the tube to see if has any markings like MS or something and just cannot in their pics. Another thing that makes me laugh is if you buy the AE's of their choice of date and mm you get 09' at + 1.89, but if you specify 09's you have to pay +2.49 at 20pcs. Why specify if you know the 09 is going to be the highest mintage so far? and you get the added bonus of paying .10 more per coin, or .62 if you pay with a cc.
Most things on the site are sent "their choice" so I suspect this is not different. Yes, I noticed this as well. I think that if they have the current year in ready supply then you will receive those first (afterall the older dates are EVEN MORE over spot for bullion coins), and if you don't realise this price switcheroo, you'll just feel like you got some sort of (pseudo) 0.10¢ deal. I'm not slamming APMEX, I have bought and will buy from them in the future provided the gimmicks don't go too looney, but like anything else you have to be an educated consumer to the best of your ability to avoid extra little tacked on fees and surcharges.
I made a mistake on previous post, they are +2.49 at 20 pcs so you get to pay +.63. Why specify, that is like asking for less.
Now I have a new question. I bought these from what I think is a good seller on ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140338624637&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT and this http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140338625064&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT I wasn't paying close attention and have done business with them before, I thought both were NGC's and when I looked later I was mad at myself for not paying better attention. Did I get crushed or just a normal "hurried" mistake of a couple bucks?
I don't think you got crushed. ANACS is not a bad grading company. If this were a several hundred dollar coin I would likely prefer PCGS, or perhaps NCG, but, on a $20 eagle I see no difference in any of the major three.
