I think you'd see services begin to be offered, by smelters and assayers who would be expanding their operations to render PM bars, nuggets, dust, leaf, etc. into coin, fractionals, and units of a smaller useful monetized nature. And they'd of course take a share for themselves for the service of rendering, however, at that point, governments would likely want to control the metals more aggressively and monitor the switch to PM coins and distribution themselves. Otherwise what control would they have like they have now on the economy.:kewl:

Well, the dollar hasn't collapsed yet and it's been up this week and again this morning.
Also you can bake your own bread. 7-11 over charges for such 'essentials' anyway. Better to stock up on the raw ingredients, flour, yeast, baking soda and get a hen or two to lay some eggs with that gold shot.

 

You could get one of these for buying with gold!

As far as government control, they would have a big, big problem there. I don't really think they would like to spend the time or manpower on it. People can dream up more schemes for hiding it and using it than Carterts has little liver pills, remember that saying? If you do you've been through it all. LOL

 

So, if you buy gold shot, do you carry around your own balance scale around along with a computer that tells you the current value of gold up to the minute? Or do you trust the merchant's scale? Do you carry a known weight around to calibrate any scale used every time it's used?

We all forget that the issue of "trust" (or "distrust") will be more in evidence than ever if the economy ever comes to the point of using raw gold/metals as currency.

I personally think silver coin and 90% silver will be the preferred medium in that contingency.

what type of gold you collect. bullion or classic. eagle/buffalo or foreign?.

 

US modern proof and bullion coins (AGE/Buf) as well some classics. However, no UHRs just yet.
I haven't really gotten into foreign gold but I do have just a few panda and maple examples. Also like those Aus. Phil coins in Au and Ag.

i got modern commemorative gold dated early 80's, american eagle and buffalo gold, and spouse gold. just one piece of the XF double eagle with gold chain and holder. this one is given by my father. he told me someone owe him $40.00. the coin is $20.00 face value. in order to help him. he just took it. the gold chain and holder were added afterward by my father.

 

Very nice. Sorry about the holder on your double eagle as to what it does to collector/numismatic value. I haven't gotten into spouse or Au commems. Some years back I traded up, by getting out of all my Ag commems for non-commem Au pieces.

 

I have over an ounce of gold in older gold coins and jewelery. I've got a sovereign, a half-sovereign, a dutch 10 gulden, and a Mexican 2.5 and 10 pesos. I've also got 1/5oz in a couple gold rings and a bracelet.

 

I hope you're right!! I think it should hit $1000 soon, I don't know when and I'm too new to take an educated guess but I really hope it spikes in price soon. I've heard that it can spike as much as $100 in one day!! Let's go I'm in, it won't make me rich, but it will make me happy!! :hail:
