Hello everyone! On February 15th I celebrated 8 years on Cointalk! It's been an amazing time sharing with everyone my joy of coins, paper currency, metal detecting, pocket knives, playing cards, fishing and other miscellaneous items such as my Bull Sculpture collection There are a few new members that have been giving me attitude and problems but I decided to pay no mind to them.. They don't want to learn then that's their problem. I've decided not to play into their games and waste my time. Today I bring you the 2021 edition of.. FOG - Found On Ground FIM - Found In Meters FIC - Found In Coinstar These are a few of my latests finds.. FOG - This morning.. Last week.. FIM - This evening.. No Coinstar finds yet. I haven't visited one yet this year. Feel free to share your free finds you acquired this year!
Here is my original thread - https://www.cointalk.com/threads/nyc-early-morning-fog-finds-totals.331843/#post-3332847
I understand FOG and FIC. But how do you find coins in meters? (I'm thinking of Parking Meters - probably wrong...)
The driver inserts coins into the parking meter to get a printout to place on the dash. Some NYC meters don't work properly.. When they hit coin return the coins don't drop down. But when they leave and after a few minutes pass the quarters or dollar coins drop down into the return slot .. Sometimes a foriegn coin pops out as shown
Neato, Meow never thought about machines like that before. Not sure if they exist in Meow's town, but probability not.
Found on the ground yesterday...just one shield cent. Never found anything in meters or Coinstars. Best find I made recently was a made in Japan pocket knife in the CVS parking lot 2 weeks ago.
Nice hauls @paddyman98 Question for you regarding FIM. From the view of the parking meter machine it appears the coin return slot has a swinging 'gate, door, blockade' covering the holder behind it. Do you have to put your hand in each meter to see if there's any change in it? If so, do you do that to every meter you pass? Cause dems a whole lota meters in NYC!! You could make that a daily job!
Correct. Small swing door. Just a quick push with my finger and you can feel the weight of the coins against it. So.. I do building maintenance at three commercial buildings in a area of 2 city blocks. Every weekday for 8 hours I walk from building to building to do various tasks. There are 4 meters I check in each walk. I can go days that I don't find anything but then one day I hit the jackpot. Such as yesterday with the $2.00 in Quarters. The .15 cents I found at the 7-Eleven cashier area floor. From my job to the train station there are a few more meters but I don't check those as much.
Picked up an 84 D dime on the floor two days ago and threw my back out reaching for it. Must have dropped it when searching a small tub of coins. Does this count as a FOG?
The last time I went to the market, I checked the return on a Coinstar machine and found a quarter. The bagger standing nearby told me the coin was the property of Coinstar and said I should put it back. I replied,"I have a better idea, why don't I jam..." He just looked at me as I walked away and my wife said, "What a rude person" and I replied, "Yes, he was." She followed up with, "I meant you."
Not true.. Whatever coins the machine accounted for is their property. That's why it is called the REJECT BIN.. That's messed up. Tell your wife I agree with what you did!
The contents inside the machine are CS property. Like @paddyman98 said, the reject bin is specifically there to say, 'not ours'. Now the question remains is, is purgatory your choice just to prove you're right with your wife?
Me tell her? Have you lost you senses? I do everything I can to keep her calm so I can enjoy her excellent cooking. You tell her!
Just wondering...have you ever been "asked" or otherwise about what you're doing, by one of NYC's finest...? I would think they would claim that anything within the confines of the meter belongs to them, but have no idea where that scenario stands, legally. Again, just curious.
I'm not sure if Monk is just touching the parking meters at the beginning of his show, or is he looking for reject coins. If the coins belong to anyone. If they don't claim the coins, it's a freebe to whoever gets it.
