Is this super damaged ASE worthless?

xD It's not that I want to throw it away I just didn't want to hold onto it if it was totally worthless.

But with today's silver spot at ~$27/ozt knowing that I should be able to get $20+ for it is great. I was terrified I just lost the entire $25 I spent on it so it's a relief to hear that I did not.

No you didn't and hopefully you can recover most of, if not all of your costs. It was that term "worthless" that made me joke about your sending it my way. :)

Well I mean I figured it might be worthless just because I can't imagine anyone actually going into an LCS and buying it with all that damage.

But then, as people have said, I realized that it's still silver and once it's melted down it shouldn't be any different than any other melted ounce of silver.

I wasn't thinking about the fact it could be melted down and minted into a brand spankin' new 1 oz generic bar. I only thought of it as a destroyed ASE.

It is a destroyed ASE but it can be made into another new one.

Yeah I was only thinking of the first part and not the second part.

I'm hoping next time I go into an LCS I can try to sell it for $22 ($5 under spot) and get rid of it.

True, but a cleaning with either baking soda paste or toothpaste might make it look significantly better.

    Hmm I'll try that.

I just happened to get a steal when I bought 12 Colgate toothbrushes on Amazon from Thailand for $0.25 each xD.

Do you think some Weiman's silver tarnish remover would help?

...how much was shipping :) Try the baking soda and toothpaste first, then why not some Weiman's. Let us see how it comes out.

I would make a pocket piece out of it.

Who knows? More importantly, who cares? You've got a great experiment piece. Give it a shot and you tell us if it would help ;)

So I just tried the toothpaste.

    This is the end result.

I just wish it wasn’t such an expensive piece xD.

It would’ve been much better if it was like a 1964 90% Half Dollar or something.

Those are only like $7 rather than $25 like an ASE.

Not any more, they aren't -- melt value is up to $9.50, and I'll bet local shops aren't letting them go for less than $12.

download your local sales app. I promise you that you can still sell them for a few dollars mark up.
