The new £5 coin I think he is on about. Which are legal tender and I myself have used £5 coins on more than 20 occasions easily to buy things. (because I am sad). That being said ive used every other coin 1000s of times.
I spent a 1976 $2 bill the other day, i have stacks of them, and it was a ratty one too, the store clerk sure looked surprised though...
At the moment it is only available in a folder base metal Unc or silver, I did email the mint to ask if it would be released as a circulating coin but they apparently dont know yet
