tiberiusmen1.jpg Ionia, Ephesus. Tiberius Anepigraphic AE18 Cult Statue of Artemis
The obverse is anepigraphic, showing the portrait of Tiberius.
There are two rings of inscription on the reverse.
They all have the name and title of the Archiereus Alexander in the outer ring,
along with the ethnic E-Φ to either side, near the arms of the goddess.
The crucial part of the legend is contained within the inner-ring of the reverse,
and within the lower part of the struts or supports of the statue.
This gives the additional name of a magistrate, of which six are presently known.

    Next: two rings of inscription

For the second time in a row I was too slow by a couple of seconds but my posts were still relevant. I'll add a new one.

This so-called Broad Fals from the Ghaznavid ruler Mahmud has two outer rings of Arabic inscription; I can't read it but I figure it has the ruler, mint, and date information there.

Is Egypt part of Africa? Hell Yes!!! Culturally and historically, no less than geographically.
...When traditional, conspicuously Western geographic perameters obfuscate this, by way of "The Middle East," I have to be reminded of other, similarly arbitrary "accidents of [conspicuously modern] history." --And, no accident, of [comparable] historiography." ...Along the lines of the British Empire as of the earlier 20th century; aka "The Pink Bits."

Naw, knew Egypt was part of Africa... doooah.

I just could not remember if the Mamluks were a CALIPHATE... ? (or just a bunch of revolting slaves who made a dynasty...)

...Promise you, @Alegandron, I wasn't accusing you of being that ignorant, just referencing other people. Effectively in the abstract.
...Who accused the Mamluks of being a Caliphate? Lost track of that one....
