They did not come from silvertowne. He doesn't remember where he bought them, probably online off of ebay or facebook. He is a novice stacker and a minor prepper. More into guns than anything. They might have even came from a gun show.
Theres a good chance of that. It's pretty common for there to be at least one person there selling fakes or novelty items at full price especially at larger shows.

The miner and his mule in the logo are off looking, kinda zombie looking. The frost on the devices seems oversprayed. These are the things that stood out when I first seen them.
Please tell your friend to buy from a reputable LCS or online dealers vetted by places like CT. Apmex, MCM, and other places might not be the absolute cheapest but you know what you are getting.
I don't buy them from any tom dick or harry. nothing wrong with bars from reputable places. you buy stuff from shmoes in a back alley you can get burned in many ways
