Ha... Prices for the 2020 BoK Proof Set are now going down and going up at the same time. In Korea, the sets were initially selling for 135,000 KRW in the secondary market a week ago, but now (July 19, 2020) are selling for 90,000 KRW on average. So prices for these sets are going down. However, the rapine tendencies of certain sellers in Korea can hardly be contained, as there is a seller who is offering them now for $300 USD (and "free shipping"), although another seller on eBay had some up for less than the initial ridiculous price of $219 USD.
I also like the turtle boats. My avatar is a 1986 50000W Korean Olympics coin with a mintage of only 30,000.
Does anyone know if there will be any 2020 uncirculated sets and what will they do for 2021, will there be 2021 uncirculated sets made just for collectors?
Yes! 2020 "regular" uncirculated sets WILL be sold. This is what the Korean Mint says about 2020 uncirculated sets. They won't be selling 2021 sets or even giving any information about them until next year. ____________________________________________________________ Information on the sale of current coin sets in 2020 Korea Mint Corporation Shopping Mall (2020.10.06) Hello, customer The following is a guide to the main contents of inquiries regarding the 2020 current coin set, which is scheduled to be sold this year. Sales schedule: Initially, the goal was to start selling the current coin set in October, but due to various circumstances and a slight delay, we plan to start selling in the first week of November. Purchase method: Due to the coronavirus, on-site sales at the Bank of Korea Currency Museum, which were sold at this location until last year, will not be conducted. This year, we plan to conduct online sales only through the Korea Mint Corporation shopping mall (http://www.koreamint.com/main/index.do). In addition, please note that the purchase limit is 5 sets per-person. Sales price and quantity: The sales price will be the same level as the previous year [I think this is 8,000 won?], and we plan to sell 120,000 sets. We will inform you of the specific sales date and other details as soon as possible. Thank you.
South Korea is actually going "coinless" like Sweden. They haven't accomplished it yet due to merchant compliance issues, but it's still the plan. IF they are still making coins by then, perhaps. It really comes down to whether or not they will still mint coins for sets even after the coins have stopped being made for circulation.
Recalling this thread because I finally got my 2020 BoK 70th anniversary set. I think it's beautiful.
No problems with the coins and packaging in yours? Lots of people in Korea complained about problems. Yours appears flawless, from what I can see in the pics. The two that I got were just like yours. After the horror stories, it was big relief to get sets that had no problems...
See earlier posts here. Watch that video that gxseries shared in this thread. There were fingerprints, scratches, and even an insect(!) in the case of one guy's set.
I'll go check it out. I was MIA since end of July when one ridiculous mod thought it was appropriate to banish me to the corner with a dunce cap.
Nope, no translation. You could try looking at his channel, or just click the CC at the bottom of the frame. He translates some of his videos.
Yes, I was threatened before. I was just directly quoting (without commentary) some politicians' lavish praise heaped on the president, and applying those quotes to describing the features a foreign bullion coin with president's visage on its obverse. I guess snarky humor is not appreciated!
