I love these, and not only because I can't afford the 5 oz. gold ones. They really look nice, and the larger size really shows the detail. This coin should really be ULTRA High Relief, it's so concave. Here's a PF69 Ultra Cameo Wedge-Tailed Eagle. The premium was among the LOWEST I've paid to silver for a graded 5-ouncer because the strong rise in silver last few days/weeks wasn't matched 1-for-1 in the price I paid, so be on the lookout if you like these coins. For about a 30% premium, I got a PF69 coin...ultra cameo....great design and near-flawless fields and devices....and a nice big protective case. Not a bad price to pay for all those features, IMO.
Glad you like it. I like it whenever a collector finds a coin he likes. Only comment is to be careful with premium percentages on larger coins. This only had 1 grading fee for 5 ounces, versus 5 for 5 1 ouncers. The mint only charged the minting premium once versus 5 times, etc. Same reason why 1/10 ouncers are pricier per ounce than 1 ouncers. Therefore, premiums by percentage are not relevant between different sized coins.
Yup...and if I was making a big bet on silver (or gold) I wouldn't buy graded or numismatic coins. This is just for my atergeire (sp.?) or curio down the line. Like I said, I love the look. The premiums on the Apollo 11 coins are still very high. Closer to 75-100%. One thing that irks me with the NGC slab: it's wider than the PCGS one, I need 6x8" velvet pouches as my 5x7" ones won't fit. If anybody sees them anywhere (can't find them on Amazon), let me know here. Thanks !
I figured you understood. Half the time my responses are more for then 100 times more people who read this board than those who participate. Percentage premium is very good to know, but only comparable with similarly sized coins.
As an added bonus since you got an NGC one you now have a new tv dinner tray too Their oversized holder size is so preposterous for the 5s when it looks like a dollar in the middle by comparison
I'm seeing the premium go really higher for PF70's....man, if someone really wants one to save 20-40% on the price by settling for a PF69 where you can't see the blemish in 99.99% of the cases is a no-brainer. You can still see the 69's for under $200 !! I paid just over that for a 70 at FUN but back then silver was $18'ish.
If I ever implement a Reverse Peephole and don't have a sockfull of pennies, I'll use it as a weapon !!
@GoldFinger1969 Have you seen these ones? https://www.amazon.com/Drawstring-Velvet-Bag-Black/dp/B008FR7I46
The only five ounce coin I own is the proof Apollo commemorative. Just an odd thought. I know commemorate strikes are legal tender. Are these hockey pucks also considered legal tender?
If it has a denomination on it, it is. Same things as other countries NCLT coins. I imagine it would never be a problem for pm coins, but if base metal coins started to get redeemed too much they would pass a law prohibiting it like many other countries have.
Depends on the country, there’s instances such as in Canada with the mints telling banks not to accept some nlct things at all
I'm still shocked -- OK, surprised...perplexed -- by how much more a modern PF70 5 ouncer goes for compared to a PF69. You're talking 1 grade increment and you can't tell the difference unless you are an expert grader, are super-sharp eyed, etc. I realize the blemishes are easer to see (in theory) on a larger 5 ounce coin so perfection is tougher to accomplish. Just surprised the sellers can get $100 or more for a 1 grade jump. PF69's are 30-40% premiums, PF70's are 75-100% (and closer to 100%).....is this a new phenomena or par for the course with recent moderns of all sizes ?
Anybody bought a 5-ouncer lately ? Seeing some 69's for under $200 but the 70's are still $250-$275. Can't understand why some people are listing theirs for $350 - $550. They're NOT gonna get that price....even if they keep re-listing, the chances of finding The One Greater Fool or 1 Idiot is super super low. Gonna have to cut the asking price. How many times do you have to list a product and get no takers before you realize you are 20-40% too high ? Only ones I see actually selling for over $300 are the 5-oz. Apollo 11's.
Not to deviate too much off course.... Do the TPG’s encapsulate these huge pucks when they grade them?
