Hello I am looking to gain some knowledge on this type of coin error. Has anyone ever seen this before?
What am I supposed to be looking at. The high relief of the coin ? I don't understand . Need close ups with arrows please if possible .
Welcome to Coin Talk. Maybe someone started to "Spoon" the coin. Taken from an old Coin Talk thread (Oct. 2017). https://www.cointalk.com/threads/dryer-coin-vs-spooned-coin.304963/
Can you give us the weight of the coin? It's a clad quarter. The weight should be 5.67 grams +/- 0.227g. Clad quarters are composed of outer layers of copper-nickel (7.50 copper, .250 nickel) bonded to inner core of pure copper. (As per Redbook). It appears that someone filed (or spooned, sanded, etc.) the edge, removing the reeded edge ,and exposing the inner core of pure copper. I'm not an expert on this so wait for more opinions.
suggestion.. You should ask if it's an error or damage. Don't assume it's a Mint error just because it looks different or strange. There are many altered and circulation damaged coins to be found. Oh and welcome to CoinTalk Peace
