I was looking at the following thread and thought I would bust out a roll of 1959's to take a look. https://www.cointalk.com/threads/discussion-on-a-1959-ddo-fs-101.369142/ Well, I found this one with rim to rim lamination and spike head. Love this site.
I don't understand the MS stuff. Many I see look like they just came out of someone's pocket. I don't send any to be graded. Not interested in finding out if mine is better than yours.
I agree. I would only send a coin in to be authenticated and graded if it was high value. Not for my benefit, but for my heirs. I chose coins by their appeal to my interests, not their estimated value. Someone else’s value means nothing to me.
Technically, this coin could not qualify for MS anything since I found it in change. But, I like it better than most that are graded in high MS.
Just because you found it in change doesn’t mean it won’t grade MS. I traded a 72 DDO- 003 to my LCD and he told me he sent to PGCS and it graded 65 RB. He showed me the slab. I got that coin out of a bank roll. I grew up thinking if a coin was circulated or touched, it was AU at best.
A beautiful coin! Remember, coins are graded by wear not how they are found. Someone could have broken a roll they had never been opened before, hence it shows no wear.
Fairly certain this is DDO-002, FS-104. also want to point out the mark above the eye is absolutely a hit and not anything to do with the planchet or the die, you can follow it out to the Trust where it mashs the letters and deforms the rim some, bottom of the U in trust is flattened/sheared. just saying it has more than light contact marks. Still a good find though. I don't see everything in the pictures but you can check for die markers and compare http://coppercoins.com/lincoln/diestate.php?date=1959&die_id=1959p1do002&die_state=mds
