Won this 1909 3 pence recently on eaby I only paid $10 for it. Opinions on grade and value why? Well because I only paid $10 for it but the ngc price guide prices it at $30 in xf condition and around $80-$100 in uncirculated so im a little suspicious about it.
The surfaces on the obverse make me think the coin is a low to mid AU. It seems like this is a coin that Krause greatly overvalues. Here are a couple ebay sold listings of higher-end examples: Example 1 - $15 - Looks UNC to me but likely cleaned Example 2 - $18.50 With that said, I think you paid a reasonable price for yours.
they both are the same coin two different sets of pictures I did alright i like it mostly do us coins but people just want to much for us junk silver bundles and rolls so I'm buying bulk lots of foreign coins biding and getting good deals.
Pricing any coins is problematic. If I just put "1909 three pence" on Google, this is the first reference: https://www.ngccoin.com/price-guide...-km-797.2-1904-1910-cuid-1131170-duid-1327496 BTW, I really like the 3 pence coins and have quite a few.
Thats what i used but TheGame confused me with his price analysis what would you grade this/price/ to me this would grade around au55 and a $50-$60 coin.
I'm not looking to sell it yet I just bought it recently and only paid $10 but your right whatever someone is willing to pay for it.
Catalog prices can be a good starting point, but to figure out a coin's true value, you have to see what similar quality pieces are actually selling for. I don't see any sold listings that imply that even a BU example would be worth as much as the Krause values suggest.
Going back to the OP. The obverse looks badly marked unless this is on the holder plastic. At which point $10-20 looks tops.
The plastic might be involved but there is a couple smaller nicks along the rim but thats it you might be mistaking marks for black spots along the rim/on the coin also from possibly being dipped at some point.
in person I can see some small scratches on the coin to also back up my explanation of being dipped/rim toining spots not marks.
British coin, British pricing site. I would say this is VF so £4 but you will never get that. This months cat prices C/O Tony Clayton a CT member. http://www.coins-of-the-uk.co.uk/values/three.html
If you are talking about my op coin its not vf it has luster so it's at least au looks much better in hand.
