New Ammon Addition

I was on a budget before but then I realized a bunch of old pokemon cards were worth a decent amount of $$$ soooo Now I get to freely shop hahaha.

After it sat in customs for several weeks, it has finally arrived. My latest addition to what will be a Zeus - Ammon collection. There are a few others that I will hopefully have added soon enough. It was my first buy from MA-Shop / Kunker and I have to say I am impressed.

Rather than keep making new threads, I thought I should just add to this one.

I am using the pictures from the the purchases as I have not quite figured out how to take proper ones. The Obv is def rough but I picked it up mainly for the Rev for my collection.

This one was from a private collectors in the U.S. that sold it on ROMA IN 07-02-2019. I cant tell if it was purchased by a individual or not but either way it made its way to MUSA Numismatic Art who I just purchased it from. It has been traveling for quite some time so I am happy to give it a good home.

Ptolemy IV 221-205 BC AE Drachma. (75.52g, 41mm, 12h)

Obverse: Bust of Zeus Ammon right

Reverse: ΠΤΟΛΕΜΑΙΟΥ ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ, Eagle standing left on thunderbolt, cornucopiae in front, ΛΙ between legs

That is a nice one, I have to say finding Silver Ammon currency has been a bit more difficult than I had hoped. I may have to start moving into the bronze category while I wait on others to show up in AH's or vcoins/mashop

 

I only have Zeus Ammon on bronze Ptolemies.

Here is one from Tyre mint. I have posted it before but this is more natural lighting.

 

My coin is a Commodus of Alexandria like the one shown by Exodus_gear. However, it is on a small flan that loses enough of the left side of the date LKZ that you need to compare it to his full legend coin to understand the traces of the LK that remain. That is a common situation with these. This one came as part of a large lot from the AK collection in Triton XX.

 

Another LKZ like Doug's. Where his is a nice light brown, mine has the uniform matte black surfaces of a Hermanubis Collection coin, the result of whatever cleaning/conservation methods were used for it.

Comment: VF, high-relief unusual style portrait, toned, tiny flan crack, light marks. This coin was previously attributed as Thompson 166, but that type has a bee under Athena's arm and a similar, but not identical, monogram in the exergue. We were unable to find another example of this type.

This is what im going for next, a Lysimachus. There is one that I am eyeing on a AH right now. Though im a bit uncertain as its my first venture into a AH setting and it states unpublished for the coin. My inexperience is currently holding me back @.@

Ref: Köln 1735; Dattari (Savio) 2944; K&G 35.647 (this coin illustrated); RPC IV.4 Online 13843/4 (this coin cited and illustrated); Emmett 1700.18. Near Very Fine, attractive dark brown patina.
