Not uncommon with MacV coins.. but with a "budget" of $20 per coin well.. you find the best you can for the price and for this set "cleaned" is not uncommon or wasn't with it's 1st attempt
Cleaned within an inch of its life, to be sure, but decent detail. Not bad for twenty bucks, I reckon, if you're unpicky and sticking within that budget range. Sometimes it can be fun to be a "bottom feeder", as I can attest all too well from my years of collecting "holey" coins.
Got a link? Wanna see that again. Do you have somewhere where this whole collection is posted? I reckon I'd enjoy looking at that low-end "$20 LC" set as much as I would somebody's high-end UNC set. Alas, I collected my date set of holey large cents a few years before I regularly took pictures of my coins, so I have no pics of that collection. It lacked only four years (1793, 1795, 1799, and 1804). Many of them were (at the time) "$20 and under" coins. As you can imagine, with my only criterion being a hole and a readable date, there were some pretty slick nasties in my collection, but on the other hand, there were some pretty attractive ones, too.
I will very likely put together a "set" post shortly once a few more coins are in hand.. have to have enough to make it worth it's own post And yes I remember talk of the "holey set" when I ran through this set the 1st time. Budget sets can be a lot of fun because they are usualy more for face appeal then value
