Earlier this summer, I was lucky enough to bid on what I considered to be three very original bust dimes, all from the same little collection. I won them all. They were all part of an estate that was being settled, and the coins were sent to auction by his relatives. What made this so risky and exciting, however, is that the seller's pics made it all a huge guessing game as to what exactly I was bidding on. Were the coins AU? Were they UNC? Personally, I couldn't be sure, but I hoped. So I chased them in the bidding war.

Below you will see all 3 dimes. First, the seller's pics with the price I paid, followed by my pics, followed by the PCGS grades and TrueViews. Where exactly did these coins come from? They all arrived tucked into little paper envelopes. How fascinating is it that this collector had a relatively small collection of such pristine coins? I am amazed, and I feel very blessed. It's always a risk buying from bad pictures. I am not a traditional gambler, but I do love gambling on coins. In any case, here they are:

    1. 1833 JR-9 variety (misattributed at first by me and PCGS as the JR-10 - yes, it is being fixed).
    Price Paid: $1100.

    2. 1833 JR-9 variety (also misattributed by me and PCGS as JR-10 - currently being fixed).
    Price paid: $775

    3. 1833 Last 3 High, JR-7 variety R.4+

I'm floored - absolutely stunned and thrilled all at once. The retail prices are through the roof on these coins, but there's nothing even close to being comparable on the last coin, the JR-7 R.4+. I mean, when the finest known lies in the Gorman Collection as an MS62, and suddenly an MS66 is found... how do you value something like that? In any case, all of these are headed to CAC when they arrive, then I'll have to stop celebrating and figure out what to do when they get back from there. Thanks for reading, everyone.

Congratulations! You made a fantastic purchase. Can't even imagine what they'd bring at auction if you chose to go that route. :singing:

I thought the second JR-9 blew the other away. The obverses have two totally different looks to them. The first one is frosty and swirls when you turn it in hand, and the second one is flashy, very reflective.

Love love all 3. I’d love to own one but out of my price range. Congratulations again. I hope they all cac and you do great with them. I personally would probably send them to a big auction and negotiate the sellers commission to max profits
