The companies that put the bottom line above all else are the ones doomed to eventually fail.

Here's another fine example of a fake PCGS slab. What's interesting. There's a TrueView picture of the real coin.

    A couple of updates:

I talked with PCGS president Brett Charville, and he has announced that all new PCGS slabs will be equipped with an NFC chip. He also told me that PCGS intends to start taking images of all coins. That will be a big improvement

Yes it will; however, IMHO this type of problem will never go away. That's because many of the people buying these obvious concoctions don't know what a genuine coin looks like, are dealing with an online image, have no clue how to verify a slab, etc.

Let me play counterfeiter to get around what PCGS will do in the future...

Using the fake above with a True View image. I've already made the fake coin in the fake slab. Now I put the coin on EBAY with a photoshop image of the true view coin in the Ebay sale. Coin sells and as long as the coin has no outstanding traits, 60% of the buyers who get it will not realize it is not the same PCGS coin in the TV and 40% of them will not know it is a fake.

Ebay is the solution and I'm going to guess they like the way things are. After all, the coin is in a slab so it must be OK to sell. ;)

    Email that PCGS sent out.

We’re excited to announce that NFC technology, which was previously included only with PCGS Gold Shield submissions, will now be rolled out to all PCGS coin and banknote holders, starting this month.

As the standard of excellence in third-party certification, we’re proud industry leaders in the fight against counterfeiting. As such, we are happy to now offer NFC technology as part of our standard service offerings.

NFC technology helps protect your collectibles and strengthens the hobby by offering enhanced security that works to fight against counterfeiting.

A simple scan with an NFC-enabled smartphone or device grants instant access to PCGS Cert Verification.

And of course what about the bijillion coins previously slabbed and not imaged by PCGS...

Send them all back in for re-slabbing (at a nominal fee), of course.

It is a slab promotion that should include free re-holdering, with shipping and insurance. Maybe a five for five deal. I think it is neat that they are doing this service. But it should also be a commitment to reduce the counterfeits already out there.

UPDATE: I have edited this post to account for the updates and make corrections to errors. I have also removed any hint of a bias towards one TPG or another. If anything is still incorrect or misleading, please let me know so I can edit it.

The article has come a long way and does a great job of just laying out the facts. Well done (sincerely).

One small note is a typo in your first edit, I believe. It says NCG instead of NGC.

Just thought I would add this one to the discussion- my contacts at ANACS messaged me back:

"It looks like a fake slab. The serial number matches our records, but the coin looks bad, the grade doesn't match the coin and the font on the label is off".

The toned Morgan in the holder is genuine. I have the NGC certification that says the piece is totally genuine in its original holder. the seem if it was tinified within the Holder. A and I have proof of many other same coins that misspelled the word Treassury. Before making these comments please inform yourself well. I was the designer of that beautiful piece. unique and exclusive for so many errors. I think I made a mistake the day I sold it.
