Laureate, Janiform head of the Dioscuri, control mark N under left chin [mark of value * (= 16) under right chin is worn off], one dot beneath head / Rev. Galley left with three rowers, gubernator (pilot) at stern, rudder beneath stern, apotropaic eye on side, three-pronged ram with wolf’s head above extending from prow, banners/streamers extending from stern, C • FONT above (N and T in monogram), ROMA below.     Celts in Eastern Europe AR Tetradrachm. Reiterstumpf Type. Burgenland or Western Slovakia, circa 2nd century BC. Celticised, beardless and pearl-diademed head to right / Rider on horseback to left, cloak billowing behind; pellet-in-annulet above, groundline below terminating in torque-forms. Göbl, OTA pl. 38, 469/3 (same dies); Kent/Mays, BMC I pl. 9, 154; Lanz 743 (this coin). 12.16g, 23mm, 12h.

    Extremely Fine.

    From the Hermann Lanz Collection; this coin published in M. Kostial, Kelten im Osten - Gold und Silber der Kelten in Mittel- und Osteuropa - Sammlung Lanz (Staatlichen Münzsammlung München, 1997);
    This coin exhibited by the Staatlichen Münzsammlung München at the 1997 International Numismatic Congress in Berlin; at the Berliner Bank also in 1997; also exhibited at the Luitpoldblock Palmengarten, Munich in 2003 (exhibition #131[obverse]).

    Here is one that I think could very well be a plate coin for any future works on the coinages of the early Buddhist and Hindu kingdoms of maritime Southeast Asia. The entire series of tin pieces is unpublished and undocumented beyond sparse auction descriptions but I've been working on a website research piece that will cover the regions' numismatic history. To date, this is the only example of a turtle / unknown character type known.

    Next: a Divus coin for a Roman emperor prior to 100 AD. Here's one I own:
