It's a new one on me; kind of like the coin but skeptical on the grader. Thanks.

It is (or was) a legitimate grading company.
    Generally respected.
They don't seem to be active anymore.
Someone else probably knows more about their current status.

I think @Insider is connected with them?

Or maybe that's ICG I'm thinking of.

I heard of them years ago; definitely a few tiers below PCGS/NGC as well as ANACS/ICG.

They were/are a lower tier grader. I remember them popping up quite a bit in the era before eBay limited which companies could be listed as "graded." Haven't heard much of them in the last few years.

I do not have the link but there is a web site that lists all the different grading services by alphabetical order. When I find it I will post it or maybe somebody have it and they can post that link. TYIA

The only real TPG's you should trust are PCGS, NGC, ANACS, and ICG. Anything else is probably way off standard and not trustable.

I think that PCI was decent back in the day. They aren't around anymore though but a lot of their grading was pretty good.

I have never used them but in talking with a couple of people very familiar with them from years back, their biggest problem was sporadic grading.

Years ago they slabbed some really nice coins. I once sold a very nice 1848-C Quarter Eagle in Mint State to one of the major dealers many years ago.

One thing you can say for their holders. They are hardest to break in the business. The plastic they used is almost steel.

I would put SEGS right under ICG/ANACS. IMO, They are the best of the third tier TPGS and there are many nice coins in their holders. Larry started SEGS when the sale of PCI to him fell through. Larry is a top numismatist. I don't know how much time he spends/or if he grades for SEGS anymore.

SEGS is still around. They aren't consistent and you should examine the coin carefully (almost as if it was raw). They get it right but also can be quite a bit off (more so than the top 4). Some people have had success when cherry picking SEGS slabs while others have been burned.

Here are a few threads with some experiences:

I'll remind readers that EVERY TPGS can be "strung up and hanged :dead:" for things :troll: :stinkyfeet: they have done yesterday and in the past! If you chose to rely on the grading of others, you :bucktooth: deserve what you get! :jawdrop:

Seems like that Morgan is 63-ish. MS63 for an 1890 is not very expensive. You can find tons of graded ones from PCGS and NGC for under $75.

SEGS used to have a good rep for variety attribution. And some thought they undergraded.
Probably best to stick with coins you can evaluate for yourself if looking at their holders. ( good advice for all TPGs ).

Larry showed up at the big Raleigh show a couple of years ago, with the most impressive array of problem coins I've ever seen (in SEGS detail slabs, and others). Some very rare stuff, not really affordable for me even as a problem coin.

When he asked if he could help me, I made some comment about how there was a lot there to like even if they were problem coins, and he got quite defensive. "What makes you say they're problem coins?" Umm... the fact that your own slab says DETAILS? It was a very odd experience.
