    Sometimes in an attempt to get to base metal you can work right through the Silver plate or destroy the silvering of a bronze coin. Must be careful there.

    True. It will remove any silvering. I would not recommend this if there is still silvering on the coin. Electrolysis should be used only as a last result, when nothing else will work.
