nice. I have a 1900 en route for the same purpose. Although I am filling an Intercept Shield US Type album. Will post when it arrives.
I'm down a rabbit hole right now where I keep upgrading coins I already have instead of filling empty slots. I just put an UNC 1913 Type 1, an AU Barber Dime and a PL Morgan in it.
lol. It’s fun. I made an attempt at this this years ago without an album. But now I am really liking these Intercept Shield albums. It has lots of sub types that I didnt have. I am down to 5 empty slots: Type 1 Shield Nickel. Affordable so trying to cherrypick one. Liberty Seated Dime Type 3 with stars on obverse. Again fairly affordable so looking for a nice one. Twenty Cent Piece And both liberty seated Dollars.
I have a few more empty slots than that. Still need some of the older dollars and I haven't even got to the older coppers.
So, to take the pic of the album page above I held it up near my front door which is a frosted glass (and obviously very sunny). I have never seen that Draped Bust half cent look like that. It almost fits for this thread. I bought it several years ago for $53.00 (close enough!). It was NGC graded as VG details. I have never been able to take a good picture of it. Here was my official pic on CollectiveCoin: But I just retook the pic with it in the album and near the door. Maybe it is the diffused sunlight. Maybe it’s the green surrounding. But here is my new photo:
When it comes to the Draped Bust cents, I'll probably try to find a nice details coin with a negligible problem. I was able to get an AU 1854 Large Cent at a fair price (I think $45), because it was in an ICG Details holder with a light rim nick. Can't even see it in my 7070.
My pics are a little blurry around the date. I just checked with a loupe and if the light is right it appears to be a RPD but it is actually a reflection off the side (taper) of the digit. The date on this one is well struck. Thanks for the info, my references for this series is woefully thin.
I bought this Shied Nickel for $12 plus shipping. This is a testimony of why when selling on line good pics are a must. I put it in acetone overnight and this is the result. I made this post right after the auction : https://www.cointalk.com/threads/what-do-your-eyes-tell-you.356949/ This is the follow up.
Great buy! I think it’s tough to find a straight graded Standing Liberty, usually they’re all so beat up.
Bought 2 for cheap. The other a 20-s vf 25 cac for $55 off another forum member. Grading cost almost as much as the coin is worth
