So I've been watching the silver market by what completed auctions of silver eagle rolls sell for. My question is on say a 500 dollar item how much will ebay and Paypal take for fees? Thanks for looking.
Paypal is 2.9% plus 30 cents for every transaction. eBay depends if you have a store or not. It's 10% without a store so just assume about 13% plus shipping charges Also be aware the fees are charged based off the buyers total, so if they pay tax or shipping you get charged fees on all of it not just the sales price
baseball21 gave you the straight skinny on fees FOR SELLING. Any new members or collector should learn that there are NO EBAY FEES for buyers but since ebay owns PAYPAL and that is the usual way you pay there may be fees to pay. Depends on how you describe the payment. Some are free others not.
Always a flat fee, whether it's 5 or 5000 dollars. Ebay gets 10% (final value fee, includes S/H) and paypal automatically takes 3% out of each transaction (instead of billing you monthly, paypal just takes it right away). Not bad if you compare this to auction houses.
It looks to me like the floor for eagles on ebay is about $450. So if you take 13% for ebay and say 5.00 for shipping do you think it would be fair to say silver eagles have a street price of about $19.30 now?
That's what people are willing to let them go for, apparently. The buyers are still paying $22.50 each, although I find that baffling. @baseball21 made a good point about percentage fees also applying to shipping and handling costs, but I think they do not get added to sales tax.
The PayPal ones do get added to it. They changed how they process the payment sometime around middle of last year (can't remember exactly when). They used to process the taxes separately, but now they process the total the buyer paid then remove the taxes/SH charges from it but charge the FVF before doing so. People have been furious about that for a while now and it was the one thing were people started wanting eBay to get their own payment system up and running
