I disagree, rarity can overarch condition. For decades the Sears Greek Coins & Their Values plate coin for the Athenian Decadrachm had a hole at the top. Of course, you collect Military Payment Certificates in the highest certified grades and that is your passion. Myself, I have some just to show what such a thing looks like, but if an MPC was not actually issued to a soldier, it is just a work of numismatic art, not an artifact of commerce.
You get a $5,000 or $10,000 bill and it's going to be tough to get those in mint condition. And low serial number? Well, there weren't that many produced so in absolute terms they are pretty low. But you might get SN with 4 zeros and that's as low as you'll find one in the condition you want. The one that is SN 27 or SN 8 might be a VF note.
I want to add.. Almost fancy serial numbers.. Just face value. To many of those on ebay. Asking for a premium is ridiculous! This is a stupid example -
First strike, first day of issue are just buzz words used by the TPG,S to separate you from your hard earned dollar and for you to pay more then you have to
You need to compare apples to apples. not apples to oranges, coins and currency are different animals, currency does not hide problems very well and you dont need a loop to look very close, everybody has there own opinion on what they will accept, but condition should always be on the top of your list, atleast its on mine
Let's see here for just one second, please? In meTALIC coinage there is a thing called "being melted down and used for other purchases....namely those Morgan Silver Dollars MINTED IN THOSE MILLIONS OF COINS which were MELTED DOWN by the "hundreds of thousands when the Silver CONTENT exceeded FACE VALUE ? Sooooo, just what happened to those MILLIONS OF DOLLARS? Some of those with the most MINTED are now some of the most RARE since MILLIONS of other coins were melted down or used for other purposes? Now we find....some values in former coins/paper money....when there was NO VALUE to those rare coins....any more? Thinking some cleaver people will have CASHED in on the rarity not only of coins....but also PAPER MONEY with it's own version of "rarity"....and those PAPER BILLS from 2003 are not so "plentiful" ....No!!! Not anymore....need to change our perpectives on such things which only bring some "VALUE" into our collector's records and "hidden profits" from those government people who would tax you too on "your secrets of hiding various income too" ? Where before there were MILLIONS OF THOSE in circulation, but far too many simply wore out, unlike metal coinage....paper (dated will not really last all that LONG in general circulation....and so the printing continues on, producing more recent printing of that PAPER MONEY? Crisp is one thing....rarity is just another factor in determining the value of a coin an paper money too?
I know it's a trinary and they aren't worth much at all if anything...usually just face,. And if the 5 was an 0 or 9 that would be awesome.. reading upside down and a low binary... But sometimes just being odd and different can have WOW value but also depends on the particular buyer just wanting for their collection... so curious as to the Wow Value of something like this.. more odd than anything
Nowadays, I think EVERY modern has First Strike or Early Reases or 1st Day....it's getting tougher to find slabs WITHOUT that stuff than with it.
Best way to answer your question..... You spent way too much effort trying to convince us it is special. That's not what makes it worth only face, but it shows me you truly understand why it is only worth face value.
As my fellow investment professional friend once said....there are no such thing as bad bonds.... only bad prices. If the "junk" SN bills are cheap enough and if someone like them....go for it, I say. I see lots of pretty bland Radars, Repeaters, Quads, ets. for sale on HA and other sites. Once upon a time, only low SN's were sought after. Now, there's a whole cottage industry.
First, the March Baltimore Whitman Show was canceled. Second, I read somewhere that the authors couldn't get Whitman Publishing to back a new edition. So we're stuck with Bob's book "as is" plus whatever we can glean from auction results (particularly eBay for the less expensive items) and whatever we can get from Coin World's Monthly.
Anybody got a super-low SN bill or a special bill with a "fairly low" SN ? I'm curious if you had the option to go even lower on the SN or perhaps get a better graded bill. My standout is my Hawaii $1 SC....SN @ 715....PMG 67....couldn't find a higher-graded bill (not with any low SN's).....and I don't recall seeing anything at the 67, 66, or even 65 level that was < 4 digits on the SN. Sometimes, you have to balance grade....SN....and type of bill.
