Posting a few pics. Is this humidity damage? Is there anything that can get rid of it? This was in a flip. Should I put my flips in small ziplocks?
Oxidation. EZest Coin dip may clean it up. I have a 5 ounce airtight that has cracked in the middle same oxidation look. I haven't bothered to clean it. Wouldn't hurt to put them in small ziploc bags. The less air can get to them = less oxidation.
Not to be too pedantic but that's not oxidation. Silver doesn't oxidize at room temperature unless very small particles. What you're looking at is the effect of microscopic airborne sulfur which reacts to form the sulfide. Paper, especially cheap paper like you'd find used in coin rolls, is usually the culprit. Chlorine also affects silver staining it pasty white. The usual source here are soft coin flips. The hard brittle ones suck because they break so easily but were specifically made this way to limit use of chlorine. Rasiel
Try this stuff, i have used it for years on all my tarnished silver with excellent results, you can pick it up at your local Walmart for about $4.
That 1 onza piece is still considered billion.....so IMO > dip away. The silver will still be 1OZ .999. Dont use any abrasive materials.
The bottom line is, bullion is bullion no matter what the condition, however looking at something that is shiny rather then ugly is always a plus
like the previous post,s suggest, bullion and bullion coins are going to be worth the same regardless of condition, and just so you wont have to ask i am 100 % against getting any bullion coin graded, its just an extra expense you have to try and get back
I agree, the problem with silver its very difficult to keep from tarnishing are toning even in a so called air-tite capsule or slab, best that you can do is manage it, every 6 months or so i go for a polish on my 10 oz bars, so they look beautiful again and i get to appreciate them, just like the day i brought them home.
The picture of the product is in the previous post Wrights Silver Cream have had really good success with it, though i wouldnt use it on a non bullion coin as we all know not to clean those
