I saw this coin listed as an "impaired proof" Morgan dollar. This is a raw coin from a seller with a lot of reviews. Based on the image, is this truly a proof coin? I'm not experienced enough to tell if this is a proof strike or business strike.
Maybe @messydesk or @Dave Waterstraat know something about die markers for this date? It's hard to tell much from those pictures. I could about convince myself that the rims are a bit elevated from the denticles, but they don't look super square.
I think Great Southern's photos can make just about any coin look like just about anything they want to sell. Somewhere in their offices there's probably a computer screen with the Photoshop Brightness/Contrast/Levels dialog permanently burned in.
As W.C. Fields once said.......... "There's a sucker born every minute!" GSC is not an ethical dealer as they prey upon new collectors who think they are getting the coin for a steal, only to find out after they receive the coin that it was misrepresented
I'm not going to defend this dealer, I'm familiar with the word on the street concerning them. But my impression is that they do know their stuff, also some of their material has been cracked out of problem slabs and is sold raw. I think it's unlikely that they would list a Morgan as a proof if it's not, unless they just made a mistake in the listing. I'm willing to have folks differ with me on that. That said, even an impaired proof has value. But there is no way to evaluated the "impaired" from those pictures.
Wow! I never knew. I get an email or 2 a day. Never bought anything, but looked once. I think I'll SPAM them.
Save your money! The pictures look very photoshopped and absolutely unnatural and it is definitely not a proof morgan silver dollar. Never believe that you'll be able buy a high quality MS coin in raw condition from a seller like this.
I can't really tell based on the photos, but the fact it's being sold by GSC is enough to make me pass.
The rims could possibly convince me, but some areas of the obv show weakness that I would expect to see on a proof.
You would be wise to forget this coin and move on. The seller is not a coin dealer but they are a coin doctor.
STAY AWAY FROM THAT SELLER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That seller is notorious for selling cleaned, polished, mis-described, problem coins. If you bought that coin, you would receive a harshly polished, circulated business strike dollar.
