    THRACE, Apollonia Pontika

    12-14 mm.
Obv: Ancient Anchor with crayfish left and A right
Rev: Gorgoneion facing with menacing sharp teeth.
Grade: A good VF coin on a chunky flan with attractive toning. Rough edge at 6:00 encroaches on the Gorgon’s chin.
    Other: S-1655.

Next coin should include an anchor or some part of a ship
(that should make it easy :)).

I am still back on the earlier post, fascinated with the unusual officina - which I didn't expect we would see quite so quickly :
    mint mark.jpg
Anyway, if we are still on "more hidden/not understood meanings" - I'll post this one for which many have questioned the meaning: playing on Caesar's name, Metellus treading on the Salus of Roma, Caesar stomping on Gaul...a mystery.
    Caesar Elephant.jpg

When said code I had no idea it would be interpreted as a meaning of elements question. These are three coins from the Rome mint Probus (A)EQVITI series where the officinae are expressed with a letter from the code word. The Ticinum series is much easier to find. I have never been able to complete the Rome set. Those interested can see the page.
