I know this is not a real penny but why was this made? Part of a set? Was it really made in 1943? Just curious.

  3. That's a steel penny they were made in 1943 only to save materials for the war effort. It is a real penny and can be spent like any other coin. But I recommend that you keep it as it is cool and a part of history.

Edit I didn't see the picture fully it's a knock of made in China not legal tender

Well, for once someone put COPY on it. As if we on CT would need that designation. Poor Abe looks like a Halloween caricature.

The real question here is- why fake a common 1943 steel cent?
The only ‘43 fakes I’ve commonly seen imitate the copper, rather than steel planchet coin.

I'd remove "copy" from it so I could spend it.

A copy steel cent would most likely cost more than a genuine one!

As bad as it is I’d still give one cent for it I’d just make sure that it was a Zincoln lol.

My question is who did they try to make the bust look like?? I assume a political token. Jim

I thought it looked like a young Pete Townsend.

I wonder if it was supposed to be a caricature of someone else for a joke of some sort... because it really doesn't look like Lincoln... and I'm not sure that it's supposed to look like Lincoln...
