Anyone? I work for an engineering firm and we play with magnets. (Drop a disk magnet down a copper tube and it will float to the bottom...). Anyway, I mentioned Canadian nickels from memory because as a kid we knew them to be magnetic. (I grew up in Cleveland, Ohio.) This morning, I checked Wikipedia and found out that pre-1982 Canadian 5-cent nickels have become scarce -- or so it was said... Unfortunately (in this context; happy otherwise), I live in Texas and we see much less Canadian coinage here. But I do have a big jar of US 5-cent nickels from emptying my change each day. So, now I will keep an eye out as I sort. Anyone else?
Interesting. I live in NE OH and was born/raised in MI. I keep all the pre-1982 CAD 5-cent coins I come across mainly for the fact that the metal value is, theoretically, ~200% of the face value (accounting for current CAD-USD exchange rate and Nickel commodities priced in USD) , so acquiring them for face value (in USDs) or less seems like an easy play, just in case. I currently have about $8-9 face value at the moment. A big pile of 99% nickel discs have got to have a 'future'. If not, oh well, its fun to speculate when it doesn't really matter.
I have about 10 rolls of pre 82 Canadian. Made a small collection from the best. I’m north of Syracuse so it’s like shooting fish in a barrel. I heard that the Canadian gov was removing them for the nickel value. Maybe someone can verify that
