This looks to be a tough one. But in mythology Typhon of the Greeks is associated with the Egyptian deity Bes. Here is an example of a coin of Bes (Typhon)...

Cilicia, uncertain city, Obol 380 B.C.E.

    .61g

    Female head facing, slightly left.

Faience Scarab of Bes or Typhon in the British Museum

    Description
    Front:Bottom

    Faience scarab; Bes or Typhon.

Bes is represented most significantly in the Temple of Hathor at Denderah in reliefs such as this one...Bes was supposed to frighten away evil spirits that haunted women in childbirth, so pregnant women often visited Denderah up through the Roman period to receive his blessings.

Are we answering our own posts now? There is a perfectly good Typhon on a Republican denarius but expecting someone who owns one to reply in 4 hours is a bit much. In all honesty, I wondered if the request was for Tryphon which would be easier. No matter.

Septimius Severus denarius / Mars Pater
The COS II coins were guessed to be Emesa by Mattingly in RIC/BMCRE but more recent scholars deny that attribution. Some guess Antioch but that hardly has any basis beyond being their guess. This coin is a COS II but the style is not typical so could be something else or barbarous. My guess (and only that) is that these coins were produced by a mint travelling with the emperor and not physically located in the same city all the time. I have no problem using 'Emesa' with the quotes meaning "the mint traditionally known as 'Emesa' but we don't really know". This is an unknown variant of an unknown mint location.

Years ago it was said "boys will be boys" to excuse bad behavior. Before that folks allowed gods special 'slack' in the rules of behavior and they could party like rock stars before the invention of the guitar. Today, there is no statute of limitations on stupidity. TIF and zumbly are dredging up moments that Hercules and Pan would rather forget 1800 years after the fact. There is one fact: If you can remember a party 1800 years ago, you were not there.
