As usual, my annual ANA pickups of freebies given out, not complete by any means. The Sample slabs given out by ANACS, P & D mints, and PCGS. NGC did not have any, and if you asked they were kind of nasty. Fun Show give aways. US Mint had a survey, and on completion you got this $1 coin in the snap tite holder First a pin supporting legislation for the 100 anniversary coin for the last Morgan & first year peace $'s. eBay give away, good for $10 on eBay, free $10. Then CONECA tokens, and the mint/BEP give away of $25 of shredded money.
Yes, same convention center as the last 2 times. also, that is the coolest part of ANACS' sample slabs. They make different ones for each show that they attend.
No last year it was in Philadelphia, the year before that it was in Denver, 2016 was Anaheim. 2010 - 15 were in Rosemont. Next year is Pittsburgh, and then back to Rosemont again. Oh wait you mean same convention center as it was in the last two times in was in Chicago.
Not happy with ANACS. Sent in my 5oz Apollo for grading and they returned it in a PLASTIC BAG refusing to grade it, said it was too expensive for them to buy the over-sized slabs. The wear & tear on the coin brought it down to an MS66 at NGC. Very disappointed.
As many major shows that I've attended, NGC had nothing in the realm of sample slabs. ANAC's once came across to me, but PCGS (by far) has been very generous. Every major show I've ever gone to, I've gotten samples, and when I've asked for multiples for friends back home, they've never flinched.......
Guess they've puckered up their burro hole, because I've never got nothin' from them. You have to attend their luncheon, as a member, to receive anything......
Oh, I didn't see this post until now! I got a freebie, too: This commemorative medal made for this year's 25th Anniversary of the Journal of East Asian Numismatics (JEAN). This medal was designed, engraved and struck in the period of a month at the Shanghai Mint, and the design is from the artist who designed China's Panda coins. Michael Chou, the Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of JEAN, was handing these silver-plated copper medals out at his Champion Auctions booth. He was kind enough to give me one. This is the 14th issue of JEAN (April 2019), and it has an article that I wrote about a South Korean commemorative issue (boxed in red on the front cover image above). You can read the article here, page 40: https://issuu.com/jeandigitala1/docs/the_fourteenth_issue_of_jean
Three more that I forgot to post. The bag is from the mint, the Stacks's Bowers is an iPhone case and the 'thingy' to the right is an iPhone holder to take pictures close up.
