If the floor is still open on this thread—and people don't mind assessing a Morgan of mine (no points, I know)—I'd love to get people's opinions on its toning: NT/MA? AT/QC? Thanks in advance!

I’m not sure that was intentional, but even if it was accidental from improper storage, the coin is still a problem coin in my view and is not market acceptable.

    I say QT.

I don't know about natural or artificial, but I don't like it one bit. It reminds me of a bad secondary retoning. I would not own this coin.

AT, but the color is the least of its worries. The surfaces look funky. AU details altered surfaces, questionable color.

I agree with the others that it looks like a problem coin, either cleaned or altered surfaces and then retoned (possibly on its own, but at that point it’s almost a moot point).

if someone has a buddy or relative that works at PCSG OR NGC ,,,,,, figure it out, there is fraud going on for decades, i havnt seen ANACS letting coins like this pass for N/T, thats why im out of the coin business, i send them a MS67 and get a 63 grade, then i see MS66-67 graded coins look like a MS62, theres NO COIN POLICE AND THEY KNOW THEY CAN DO whatever they want

For the record, NGC just graded it AT — AU Details. So @EyeAppealingCoins, you were pretty much spot on.

This one was disappointing! I can tell you it was in my old Whitman folder since the 60's and was never touched....by me anyway. Can't say where it was between 1944 and the 60's.

I'm curious to see these coins you're speaking of. Could you post in another thread the MS 67 coins that received a 63 grade? Thanks

Really too bad. Did it tone in the album, or was it colored before you put it in there?
I've seen quite a few recent year coins in circulation with amazing color. Pretty sure I have a few in my own folders. My point is there would be absolutely no reason to artificially tone a 2016 d shield penny, or what would have been a 15-20 year old coin when you put it in the album. I'd appeal;)

Not a chance in hell I could remember that. I was just a kid. No doubt I pushed those coins into the Whitman folders with my greasy fingers! :hilarious: The proper handling of coins back then never crossed my mind.

If it were a high value coin, it'd consider breaking it out. I just use it as an example of what not to submit next time.

This one is not slabbed, just an attempt to revive a thread.
    What would this one get?

@Pickin and Grinin I've seen the letter transfer before and think that is market acceptable. I'll say the color might just squeeze by as MA.
