What is the word for a group of hippocampus or hippocampi? A pod? A school? A sea heard? I suggest... a gallienus... A gallienus of hippocampi!!!
Mine came from France, and arrived just fine. It was for a Saturnalia rather than a decennalia (thanks, @Cucumbor!) GALLIENUS AE Antoninianus. 2.75g, 21.8mm. Rome mint, AD 267-268. I have a question about this coin: I recently won one of these in a bulk lot. There is an old label that came with it. It says: "Sicily, Syracuse AE trias Timoleon 344-336 BC S1193" In researching this I noticed that most of the examples credit it to Dionysius I (405-366 BC) Is the information that came with my coin just out of date or were there two separate issues?
Yes, one with Dolphins Dionysius II / Timoleon and one without Dolphins Dionysius I Here's mine with Dolphins:
This came in two days ago: Gallienus (253-268), antoninianus. Obv. Radiate bust right. GALLIENVS AVG. Rev. Hippocamp t.r., NEPTVNO CONS AVG. 18 x 20 cm, 2.33 gr. A merry hippo, followed by a funny camp!
Acquired two hippocamps this year: Cannot make out the held octopus in the former, but have been waiting for a decent "archaic" nomos from tarentum to complement the classical.
