Over the last 25+ years I've been buying some 90% U.S coins.
My average buy for one year is around $100 face. I always
buy quarters when I do. Do you have a fav. when purchasing
    90% for fun or stacking?

Half dollars are my favorite. They circulated the least so they still hold the most weight. They also make that nice silver sound more clearly than smaller denominations.

Imho, I love silver because it’s more affordable for me. Mostly silver dollars. I limit myself to ten gold coins a year and at least 3 silver dollars a week. Any more than that and the wife will have a heyday! My sons love hearing the silver coins ring

My preferred option is anything that is 100+ years old.
After that, anything that is still in better then good shape and cheaper the better.
I don't seem to run into too many quarters though.

Halves. I used to CRH so I got used to them.

Garlicus Debt is dumb, cash is king.

My preference, but not what I usually get:

    1. Walking Liberty halves
    2. Mercury dimes
    3. Other halves and quarters
    4. Whatever I can get for 10x face (which is generally what I get, through my ‘network’, and not much of it)

Somewhat related to this thread, what buy/sell premiums are you all seeing? Buy back at my shop is $.75 under and sell is around $.25 over. Kind of discouraging considering the market for 90% was much higher a couple of years ago when buy back was melt and sell was $1.00 over for me.

I like Mercury Dimes...at this point in stacking for me I only want 90% because it’s fractional, best way is dimes.

Dimes are nice, especially to sell at gun shows!

Silver Dollars. They hold their value.

@Bman33 Why are dimes easy to sell at gunshows?

There is a survivalist crowd that typically go there.

@Collecting Nut Is the premium you pay for dollars not higher than other 90%?

@Ban33 I never thought about that angle.

Typically a bit more but then each one has .7734 ounces of silver and Americans have a fascination with those large coins, especially Morgans.

I think I like the Peace Dollars best, then the Walkers. I am working on my second complete set of Peace Dollars, and have a nearly complete set of Walkers—I think I'm missing the two rarest. I have a complete set of Franklins and I have all of the Washington quarters from '42 to '64, most could be certified and receive a high classification, but not worth the cost to do so. I'm also missing just the '16-D from the Mercury dimes. No attempt to begin an SLQ collection, as I cannot afford the time to do them right. Working on the Morgans right now.

You can usually get $3-$6 dollars more than melt for low grade common Morgans.

Yes, but also the 90% dollars are much older than the 90% everything else, so there's that natural, age-related premium as well.
