Got this in a fixed price bin of "Love Tokens" for $10. It looks like a 1913 Prussia 2 mark coin, the one commemorating the 100th anniversary of Prussia entering the war against Napoleon. I can't tell, but it looks like the coin inside is intact, and only held in place by the 4 tabs. I'm not sure if I want to deface the pin just to extract the coin inside. I'll probably just leave it as is. Wondering if it was a good deal or not in this condition. Funny, the underside looks a lot like the Mexican eagle and serpent, but I guess in this case the eagle is probably Prussia and the serpent is supposed to be that snake Napoleon.
As for the coin "inside", see here for example. And yes, I would leave it that way - if you remove the holders, you may well see some traces of them on the coin. And the "frame" with the oak leaves is nice ... Christian
What is that small square thing tagged on the end of K in MARK ? Edit, It could be damage from when the pin hinge is folded.
I think you are right. The pin has a projection near the base to separate it from the coin, and it looks like it left a damaged mark as it was opened and closed.
The coin looks like it is in pretty good condition (AU maybe) but I would leave it like it is. I would also say you got a pretty good deal for $10
Almost $5 melt value and if the coin is not damaged this site has it from $16-$22. And as Eddie pointed out, worth more than $10 to antique jewelry collectors. Source: https://www.ngccoin.com/price-guide/world/german-states-prussia-2-mark-km-532-1913-cuid-1126197-duid-1371527
