Great coin! Does your LCS get very many ancients? The only one my local shop had growing up was a Corinthian stater with the Pegasus for $200, which was almost a month's rent 35 years ago. Needless to say I never bought it. John
Technically wasnt my LCS, a coin shop down in texas on vacation. They had around ten of them. Hammered coins, tiberius, postumus, all over the board.
Very nice Roman Republic Denarius, @CoinBlazer ! Serrated were a mystery with a lot of modern opinions. I like the clipping deterrence idea, but it has not been substantiated. Worth adding that these coins are an interesting issue that @red_spork wrote up nicely in 2015. Between the two posts there are examples of all 5 coins that Crawford describes: 282/1. M Aurelius Scaurus the OP coin from CoinBlazer 282/2. L Cosconius Ryro's coin 282/3. C Malleolus my coin 282/4. L Pomponius red_spork's OP coin in the other thread 282/5. L Porcius Licinus ...the 5th coin is shown in the other thread - as a "missed opportunity" These coins from the colony of Narbo were minted under an unusual administrative structure and I find often misattributed between the 5.
The coins that are out there and the number of people interested must be very small....my latest purchase ...(the same OP coin)
