    118 BCE. AR Serrate Denarius (17 MM, 3.53g, 6h). Narbo mint. Helmeted head of Roma right; X (mark of value) to left / Gallic warrior (Bituitus, king of the Averni?)driving galloping biga right, hurling spear and holding shield and carnyx. Crawford 282/2; Sydenham

    Rome mint, weight 3.902g, maximum diameter 19.6mm
    Obverse: HISPAN downward behind, veiled head of Hispania right with disheveled hair; reverse togate figure standing left, extending hand toward legionary eagle before him, fasces and axe behind, A• / ALBIN / N•S• vertical downward in fields from left to right, POST A•F• in exergue;
    Crawford 372/2, Sydenham 746, RSC I Postumia 8, BMCRR I Rome 2839, RBW Collection 1393, SRCV I 297
    Note: gVF, dark toning, part of reverse not fully struck, tight flan cutting of exergue

    Great coin!

    Does your LCS get very many ancients?

    The only one my local shop had growing up was a Corinthian stater with the Pegasus for $200, which was almost a month's rent 35 years ago. Needless to say I never bought it.

    Technically wasnt my LCS, a coin shop down in texas on vacation. They had around ten of them. Hammered coins, tiberius, postumus, all over the board.

    Very nice Roman Republic Denarius, @CoinBlazer ! Serrated were a mystery with a lot of modern opinions. I like the clipping deterrence idea, but it has not been substantiated.

    Here is one of my Serrated from that same year.

    Worth adding that these coins are an interesting issue that @red_spork wrote up nicely in 2015. Between the two posts there are examples of all 5 coins that Crawford describes:
    282/1. M Aurelius Scaurus the OP coin from CoinBlazer
    282/2. L Cosconius Ryro's coin
    282/3. C Malleolus my coin
    282/4. L Pomponius red_spork's OP coin in the other thread
    282/5. L Porcius Licinus ...the 5th coin is shown in the other thread - as a "missed opportunity"
    These coins from the colony of Narbo were minted under an unusual administrative structure and I find often misattributed between the 5.
