    I once read a proposal identifying the animal attacking the man with a spear as a large breed dog of war rather than the traditional ID of lion attacking a gladiator. I never saw any authoritative follow up on the matter which was proposed mainly to remove this coin from the list of types showing a gladiator. I am not a Republican specialist and do not know the current best guesses in that crowd.

    Failing that, the coin shows horses which really were the only animals of war worth mentioning.

    Alexander III Tetradrachm Amphipolis Price 78 Troxell E 2 17.200 grms 24 mm diameter. Price had this coin dated from 336 -323 B.C Troxell circa 329-325 B.C. and now Le Rider believes the group to be posthumous. alexandert46.jpg
