https://www.pcgs.com/shared-orders/order-details/21607283 Ex-CNG eAuction 435, Lot 447. Graded exactly as expected. CNG photo looks better than the TrueView. https://www.pcgs.com/cert/37681941 Ex-Reigate Hoard & @Paddy54. Graded higher than expected. https://www.pcgs.com/cert/37681942 Ex-Nomisma Spa, San Marino, eAuction 9, Lot 592. Graded as expected. https://www.pcgs.com/cert/37681943 Ex-1682 Johanna shipwreck & @Paddy54. One coin I'm OK with a "details" grade on, since it is a sea-salvaged shipwreck piece, after all. And they put that info on the label. https://www.pcgs.com/cert/37681944 Ex- Künker am Dom- I was worried it had been wiped and would get a "details" grade for old cleaning but it straight-graded at AU50, to my delight. https://www.pcgs.com/cert/37681945 Ex- Münzenhandlung Dirk Löbbers- the first 70-grade I've made. https://www.pcgs.com/cert/37681946 Ex- @Mark Metzger- now the finest known. https://www.pcgs.com/cert/37681947 Ex- @Mark Metzger- now the second-finest known (these are the only two graded). https://www.pcgs.com/cert/37681948 Ex- @Aethelred-sourced bulk bag- exactly how I thought it would grade. https://www.pcgs.com/cert/37681949 Ex- @spirityoda. Coin cost me nothing, so I'm just in it for the grading fees. Sent it in because... well... just because. Cool design. https://www.pcgs.com/cert/37681950
Lots of pop. 1/0 stuff here! Ain't so hard to achieve the top of the population when you're the only person who's sent one in!
Some very awesome coins here. I'm glad the grades pretty much came back as hoped and even a touch better.
Two pieces did not grade as they were apparently ineligible types, but I expect I'll be getting credits on those. And I had a grand total of seven bucks invested in the pair. One was a gift and the other a cheapo.
The first no-grade was a medieval Vietnamese cash coin that I just liked the look of. The second was this medal, which had been a surprise gift from @coin_nut.
Indeed. I asked "why?" on a couple myself, and I'm the one who did it! Take the Tanzanian coin, for example. By the catalog value, that's a $2.50 coin I just spent $40-45+ to slab. Some of my rationale for that is covered here. It is largely a sentimental thing, really. And since nobody is likely to be submitting many of those in the foreseeable future, it is likely to remain pop. 1/0 for a long time. I don't believe any of these were issued in proof or mint sets (if so, I haven't heard of that), and amongst the (few?) surviving Mint State coins left out there, this one probably stacks up pretty well.
Very nice. Thanks for sharing. I went back to look at the groat several times. It's a winner. Great portrait.
Here's my Edward III Groat. Not as nice as @lordmarcovan but fun for means of comparison. I'd put mine at VF25 or 30 given the others XF45
