What's the deal hear? Don't we have enough coins to deal with or is this something else. I guess (as I've said before), I just am too new at this to see the reasoning behind this type of release. Why do you think the mint would release a "W" mint mark into the public? I thought (wrongly I guess), that the West Point mints were for collector series only. The article says, "The goal of the initiative is to create excitement about coin collecting.......". Does that mean they believe there is a low point in coin collecting? Are they saying coins are here forever and the hope of ridding the U.S. of the extravicate cost of producing coins at a loss is to continue? Will the people love this coin so much they will start a new craze? Join us, same time, same channel, next (whenever), to find the answer to these ignorant (that only means the lack of knowledge by the way) questions........ or just reply with your thoughts. Thanks.
The US MINT, if you follow them, has started new programs to increase exposure of coin collecting; for kids, educators, collector clubs, etc. The W is just ONE of many programs they have been offering. Just go to https://catalog.usmint.gov/product-...4.1341536480.1560435370-1938086692.1560435370 and you can see many of their offerings from Space (Apollo 11) to small kids (like the "Rocketship" and "Explore and Discover coin set." So the "W" quarter is just part of that initiative. I don't understand your statement ... "Don't we have enough coins to deal with" ... the US MINT is a business. Not only do they make coins for "commerce" which for some reason people collect, but they also make coin sets specifically for collecting and also offer other programs, etc in relation to selling product for coin collecting.
The mint did make a big noise about releasing two million of these randomly. As I recall it was directly on the heels of the Great American Coin Hunt. I am with @Clawcoins and applaud their efforts to bring collecting into the limelight in this fast paced digital world. I would sure rather see youngsters taking some interest in their history via coins than whatever the latest Facebook craze is. I believe the former will be more useful to them.
Very true, thank you. I too am very concerned as to just where our youth are being lead off to. Hopefully this will save a few more. Good point.
You know, once again I am a lose...... all I wanted to do is chat, have some fun, learn a little and maybe make a friend or two. Three separate times now, on this sight, I have been slapped (figuratively), for my attempts. It's getting old.
Some people like to just stick with the facts. Some people are into coin humor. I like a good coin joke every now and then. You need a thick skin here sometimes David. If you are interested in a contest in July by lordmarcovan I am offering a 2019 reverse proof cent with a "W" mint mark. Good luck on winning it... you will have to wait until July. He does have 1 running for June right now. Link: https://www.cointalk.com/threads/lo...prize-lots-from-3-donors-2-gold-coins.339825/ In it I am offering a Singapore sea horse coin. good luck.
OUTSTANDING Sir. I do understand and most appreciate your advice with the offer. I have already signed up for the JUNE contest (with some fantastic prizes). Howbeit, I came very close to dropping out, you and others have restored my confidence in the 90%ers like you. Thanks again.
I feel your question was answered by @Clawcoins and @Randy Abercrombie. And I can't add to what @spirityoda said. You're fairly new on CT so we don't know you. Likewise you don't know us. Believe it or not when I first joined I felt the same way you do now. That was about 4 years ago. I've learned a lot from the members here and they have learned from me. It takes time. Don't be disappointed or discouraged by a few comments. Try to understand that we see the same questions daily, mainly from new members who know little to nothing about coins or the minting process. Take time to get to know us by reading threads that interest you. That will tell you a lot about certain members. It will come but it takes time.
"Don't we have enough ____?" That's a great question! One may ask that about anything. Time for the government to step in and do something about ______!!! I've asked myself, "Don't I have enough Napoleon III 10 centimes?" Small change shortage: https://www.google.com/search?q=small+change+shortage&rlz
Thank you. Yes, I agree, this is mostly a good bunch of people and have said so in a couple of my youtubes. Moving right along, let's just get back on the road to learning and enjoying each others help.
"They" do that with postage stamps, too. Since the 1930s at least. "Useless Grant couldn't do any better! Why, heck, if I'd taken Richmond and brought back Bobby Lee to Congress in chains... ...the war might have been all over and the division of the Country would be back to Square One. Speaking of which, when are we going to a decimal system in our coins? All these "quarter", and "half" Dollars and ... what is a "dime", anyway?
