If you are going to quote me, than quote me correctly. I never made that statement. What I said was, "Many are Key dates and several have mintages of less than 10,000". Mintage less than 10,000 does not automatically make a coin rare, but if the demand is there, and the supply is not, it will increase in value. Besides, who doesn't enjoy low mintage coins. To be clear, I do not "stack Silver". I collect World Silver Bullion and Collector coins. Yes, I am one of those crazy nuts who will pay a premium for collectible coins. There is not one coin in my collection that I could not post on eBay and not sell for more than I paid. Some of them I could realize a significant profit. I was not looking to make a killing by selling off my collection. I was testing the market to see if I could liquidate all at once and still come out ahead. Avoiding the hassle of selling one at a time. I guess since I put this collection together one at a time over many years, then I should expect that it will require me to dispose in the same manner. My concern was the lack of professionalism in the response that I got.
Fair enough, unfortunately nothing can be done about that. I'm sure it's just a standard response, better luck next time.
Like Mr. Roots above, I too would like to see some pictures. Although I'm pretty sure I would disagree with their response, I would like to see what American Rarities was responding to.
many of those were bought when silver was 30-40/oz and then premiums.so you may have to sit on these for decdes
My average cost on these is around $27 each. I don't think I will have to sit on them for decades. The most I paid was $40 on 2 of the Britannias and I can easily sell those for more. These were acquired over many years.
I would have to disagree, to a point. If there is a particular (silver) coin that one inherited, or was given to them by someone special, or whatever, why would that sentimental value have to be considered ‘silly’? The only reason that I can think of, is that if they expected someone to pay a premium for that sentiment. However, someone assigning sentimental value to a coin, and keeping that coin for that reason, is no more silly than thousands of other things people do every day.
I have unopened tubes of a few of those....The only way to get a premium over melt is to grind them out coin by coin.
I would say you have to get to the dealers that make a market in them. All of the dealers I know would pay less than melt, since to them they are bullion. I am sure they are worth premiums to the right dealer though. I have bought a few of those for melt over the years. I agree, OP, though that all dealers should offer courteous replies. Which dealers did you buy these from over the years? I would approach them.
Why are you offended? They won't pay any extra for what some people deem collectible silver. For them, only the metal content seems to matter. So as others have said, you need to find someone who cares about the numismatic value. They obviously do not. "The items you have presented have minimal to no extra collector value or bullion value" However, their statement, if you have quoted it accurately, is incorrect. These items DO have extra value to some people. Also, by their placement of the word "value" they have caused confusion. The sentence should read: The items you have presented have minimal to no extra bullion or collector value to US. They need to utilize better writing skills for clarity.
@myownprivy beat me to it. I wouldn't have read their response as insulting; I would've read it as "we aren't the buyers you're looking for". By the same token, I wouldn't be insulted if I took a better-date Morgan dollar to my local pawn shop and they offered me $10 for it. I don't expect them to recognize dates and conditions. But when I found that they'd put out a handful of Morgans at $22, and one was dated 1895-O, I didn't feel compelled to educate them.
1 OZ of Silver is worth just exactly that, its up to you the premium you want To pa, most of the time you will not get that back, so something you need to Consider.
