I've been meaning to make some wall hangings. I decided to give an online custom canvas shop an attempt. I went with Canvaschamp.com due to great reviews and price. I used a relatively high resolution photo; somewhere between 2k and 4k. Canvas size is 24x36. It comes mounted on a very sturdy pine frame with mounting hardwear already attached. Resolution quality is great. I think the iridescence of the coin is well represented, but not as well as in the original photo. Price shipped: $67. Took 7 business days from submission to arrive at my doorstep I highly recommend them. I'm sure I'll be creating more in the near future. - Michael
Very nice, and of a coin that’s special to you to boot! My local Greek restaurant has the walls decorated with paintings of Ancient Greek coins. I should snap some pictures next time I’m there.
Because he really loves that coin? Look, it doesn't really matter why, it's his money. I personally wouldn't do it, but I think it's pretty cool. I can definitely appreciate it even if it's something I personally wouldn't do.
Just in case anyone was confused, the "between 2k and 4k" was the photo resolution, not how much it cost! I am confused about that resolution though. Did you mean between 2k and 4k pixels wide? It surely isn't the file size, which would need to be on the order of tens of millions to render such a large and clear print and it doesn't seem to be overly pixellated.
Good catch. Each photo of obverse/reverse was between 2k-4k. Combined, the final photo resolution submitted was 5824 x 2880. So 5.25ish K?
I absolutely love it... it's great. While I am not inclined right now to do canvas, I would love to get nice larger prints made at Costco and frame them for my office. But for the life of me I cannot figure out how to get my merged pics to fit a standard photo size for printing. @TIF attempted to help me on a thread awhile ago explaining the pixel sizes required for each size print.. and I am sure her information was 100% correct.. but whatever I do when I resize to those pixel specs (or by even inches) half of my coin disappears from the frame. Frustrating to say the least! Any ideas are appreciated .. maybe a PM so I do not hijack this thread. Cheers!
Maybe get two prints made, one for obverse the other reverse? I'm assuming your trying to fit it into a standard Costco format size, whatever that might be.
I let my wife choose. It was between this or my Istros drachm. I flipped a 90 gram ptolemaic AE for the draw. ha. Tails to Lucania.
It's sitting on the floor in my office, currently. I've ran out of space. Looks like it's going in the living room. Wife is thrilled.
You could do what Ken suggested, but make them square and trim to fit, and put them in a frame like this. Would fit 8 obv & rev pairs. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B010XG8S72/
@iamtiberius Lets put aside what I think of hanging photos of objects in living or working space, just imagine how would you feel if your spouse started printing and framing her collection of handbags, shoes or jewlery, which could also be worth in tens of thousands in real life. Would you share her excitement in viewing them every day?
