A recent purchase from Andy Singer at the Vienna, VA coin show which was surprisingly heavy with ancients dealers. Couldn’t resist picking up a unique Julius Caesar denarius. Julius Caesar RSC 13 denarius Julius Caesar Denarius. 46-45 BC, Spanish mint. Diademed head of Venus right, Cupid on her shoulder / CAESAR below Gallia & Gaulish captive seated beneath trophy of Gallic arms. Syd 1014, Crawford 468/1. Feel free to post anything related. Awesomeness! The double strike causes it to say Caesar twice!!! Very cool coin. Here's mine with Venus on the obverese: Julius Caesar Denarius fouree, Africa, 47-46 BCE. AR 2.8 g. 18mm, Diademed head of Venus r. Rev. CAESAR Aeneas running l., carrying his father Anchises on his l. shoulder, holding palladium on his outstretched r. hand. This coin represents Caesar’s war coinage for the protracted campaign against the Pompians in Africa culminating in the battle of Thapsus.Cr. 458/1. Syd. 1013.
That's a great double strike. CAESAR DICT PERPETVO laureate head of Julius Caesar right L BVCA Venus seated right holding Victory on extended right hand, transverse scepter in left Struck Feb - Mar 14th, 44 BC. 3.58g RCV 1410, RSC 24. Venus seated' only appears on this one type of Caesar's 'lifetime' issues, on the remainder she is standing. Lucius Aemilius Buca was a distant relative of the dictator Sulla. @H8_modern - that is a great coin... love that "Caesar" was part of the double strike. I do not own any JC coins but I do think yours is one of the more interesting I have seen. Congrats!!
