I sold some wheat cents on eBay and I shipped them about 4 days late the buyer of the wheat cents is demanding a full refund because I shipped them late are they try to blackmail me? and was is a smart thing to say no to them?
1) Give the buyer a refund and move on. It's not worth the hassle. 2) Don't wait 4 days to ship. If I were the buyer, I'd be annoyed too.
but I have already sent it I don't want to be at an $80 loss because I don't have much money at this very moment.
I meant give them a refund in exchange for the buyer returning the coins. Then sell them again, and next time ship them in a timely manner.
Wait. You shipped them in 4 days, or you shipped them 4 days late, meaning 4 days over the maximum amount of time allowed by eBay? If you shipped them in 4 days from the auction, absolutely, 100%, do not refund.
Did the guy have an urgent need for $80 worth of wheat pennies? If not, what's the big deal? Yes, you should have shipped it faster, but life happens sometimes and I don't see how it being a little late means he should get the item for free. That is a very unreasonable request in my opinion.
I have never sold anything on eBay and probably never will. HOWEVER, I buy an enormous amount of coins and other things on eBay EVERY DAY. I average about 100 purchases per month. Many of my items are shipped late and I never make demands because of it. I have made minor complaints to some sellers as in " Jeeze man, I was waiting on those.", but I have never demanded a complete and total refund for being late. A few sellers who have made mistakes and recognized those on their own, have sent a few minor "gifts" as appeasement, appeasement that wasn't needed, but no one has ever gifted me anything truly worth anything. Modern Cupro-Nickel foreign coins are not at all valuable to me.
While we're talking about eBay.....I just found this on our favorite coin auction site... 143155495085
A full refund for late shipping does seem excessive. I can see where the buyer might complain or give you negative feedback, but asking for a refund simply because they arrived late is strange. Is there anything more to the story? Could the person maybe be dissatisfied with the wheats and is trying to use the late shipping date as a pretext to return them? I don't know the whole story of the transaction, but in general the minute someone bids on an item that you have posted on Ebay, you should begin preparations for shipment. If something comes up and you can't ship to them in a timely manner, notify the buyer immediately. I think the majority of people will understand as long as you notify them. At this point, Ebay is now a professional selling platform and people expect customer service from purchases at a level similar to other sites. If you don't have the resources or time to offer that, then it's best not to sell there.
Yeah, the buyer's reaction was extreme for sure, but the seller has to deal with what happened, not what should have happened. Who knows? Had the OP simply messaged the buyer to let him know he was running behind, the reaction might have been different. In selling things online, good communication is super important.
It’s just coins, not an ECU for his truck. A passive aggressive buyer shouldn’t make you lose sleep. Learn from this and try to do better.
It irritates me when sellers don't mail out their items promptly. A coin I won in an eBay auction on 2/25 arrived yesterday...The postmark on the envelope was March 2. That's five days. I'm waiting on two more that I won on 3/1 & 3/2, but that's too soon to start huffing over. Maybe next week.
