I did all of my roll-hunting for silver years before the price of silver rose to almost $50. When it dropped back to $45, I sold all of the rolls I had accumulated. Since then, everybody and his brother has been CRH-ing, but for most, it is for a few here or there. You're getting into it kind of late, but there are still a few to be found. Sure, every once in a while someone will dumb-luck across a big stash at an old bank in a small town, but don't expect it to happen very often. Chris
That's what I was afraid of. It seems a little late to get started. How easy is it to get large volume of coins to sort? Can you request from your bank?
No, I do not. Complete waste of time. I'm the guy depositing all that THOROUGHLY searched through change that results in zero finds. Of course, if your thing is microscopic varieties, search away, because I couldn't POSSIBLY care LESS.
It was fun back in the day but those days have long passed, I am sure most of us have seen the youtube videos, they mostly go like "OMG OMG, guy's guy's OMG your not going to believe this, not one but TWO enders OMG guy's" lol it's all staged but I could see a bank teller or retail cashier coming across something every now and again.
It happens. Just not very often. You end up "earning" much less than minimum wage for the time you spend. Of course, if you're doing it for fun, that time is its own reward.
Yes. My finds from 15,000 dimes. I consider the success rate I have the exception to the rule. Most people do not find this much silver.
I'm guessing the proportion of silver in US change found outside the US is higher, because those coins are likely to accumulate longer without being circulated/cashed in/searched. Of course, it's probably harder to find those coins to search them, too.
I used to order 2 - $500 boxes of half dollars every week from my branch of BoA and I never had a problem. Of course I had been doing business with them for 25 years, and always kept a substantial sum of money on deposit in various forms. Nowadays, the problem with everyone is that they order rolls from one bank and "dump" the bad stuff at some other bank. They aren't doing anyone a favor! I've said for years that it doesn't matter if you dump at another bank because other CRH-ers are dumping at your bank, and the end result is that all of the banks will end up charging service fees both ways. All I can say is that you should check with your bank on what their policies are. Chris
your best bet would be searching threw 50 cent pieces for for 40% and 90% silver halves. I did dime boxes for searching silver dimes. I was getting 1-2 a box. About 2 years ago. Started up again 3 months ago. My last box was a skunk(zero silver).
My dad does CRHing to kill time and for the thrill of the hunt. He usually gets 4 boxes of halves a week. Most boxes have zero or one silver half to keep. He does occasionally get a box that has much more. I think the most he has ever gotten was around 100 silver halves in a box (about 90 of them were 40%) That is the dream! One time he found a cool circulated Oregon commemorative half. I did it for a little bit but found it too tedious for the return. Each to his own.
I don't CRH for silver. If I get silver, great. However, I would rather just do something else and be able to buy silver for the same amount of my time.
