Our member @ominus1 sent me a gift (not a Secret Santa present) of a display device which makes a coin seem to be suspended in air. Thank you, @ominus1 !

The coin is a tetradrachm of Trajan from Antioch. 24 mm.
Laureate head right over club and eagle right.

The outside of the square is 3 1/2".

I have not decided where to put it. I see it could be also laid flat to suspend the coin 3/8" in the air. I think this case would be a great way to show coins to a class or group because it is natural to hold the case, both sides are perfectly clear, the coin is protected from handling, and even if it were dropped I think the coin would not hit the floor. Also, very tiny coins would be easy to handle. I only have had the one case for an hour, so I cannot claim to be an expect on how to use it!

I think it is called a "suspended display stand" or "suspended floating display case" if you want to buy it.

We have had threads on storage and displays before:
    https://www.cointalk.com/threads/how-do-you-present-your-collection.328777/

The case is obviously not a way to store a collection, rather put a coin or two on display. Show us anything nifty relevant to displaying coins!

I think it's pretty neat. I have seen similar with photos and even comic books.

@ominus1 is a great guy! I think those 3d floating frames are called "Nimbus Frames" - that may be a brand so there are most likely others out there.

I bought this coin earlier in the year and it came in a pretty neat Capitol Plastics type holder that was obviously special made:

it uses the same method of the Indian Rope trick..:smug:...there's two sheets of a Mylar type material one on either side...i thinks that's a great idea for show and tell to a group/class @Valentinian :)

The OP "floating display" worked very well and was attractive, but a bit large for coins at 3 3/4" square. I looked around and found this which is only 2 3/4" square.

Haha, that's great! It inspired me to take a photo with a recent birthday present... my lego legionary with a Justinian coin that's been giving me dating challenges.

Does anyone know the exact name for the plastic used for the clear part that touches the coin?

Various manufacturers refer to it as silicone, which usually means polydimethylsiloxane, possibly a cross-linked type.

Got mine from China via eBay. Put in my ptolomy 42mm which slowly slips down the case. Keep meaning to change for something lighter.

The last two coins I got from the last Roma Auction came in these little stands each in a little box with the logo of Roma Numismatics. The stands are very neat. IMG_5010.JPG IMG_5009.JPG The two coins were
    1. Trajan Denarius RIC 333 Woytek 570tt+
    2. Marcus Aurelius Denarius Rv Armenia std. RIC 81 4882868l.jpg 4882883l.jpg As usual my desk is a mess
