Thanks! I got the mint set for greysheet bid, so the two varieties were just icing on the cake. I was really surprised to find the 1958 sitting in an album. I'll definitely keep an eye out for them from this point forward.

Remember....all proofs starting in 1956 exhibited the type 2 reverse. This thread is about the type 2 reverse found on the 58 & 59 circulation strike franklins. The type one reverse was used on proofs from 48 to 56 and switched during the year.

Looked for type 2s on the 58s a while back but to no avail...Now for the 59s. An article in the Sept. 2018 Numismatist on page 16 very vaguely mentioned the type 2 58 rev. as a single proof die used on some of the MS 1958s. Thanks for the in depth description of this cool variety!

I remember getting the Type 2 in change. The eagle stood out quite well. What's old is now new. This is my hobby, I do it for fun. Happy New Year to all.

physics-fan3.14 You got any more of them.... prooflikes?

It's funny how, every few years, this thread gets some action. This was originally posted almost 10 years ago.

It is absolutely crazy for me to see that over 18,000 people have viewed this thread.

Why doesn’t PCSG acknowledge the 1958 Franklin Type 2? It’s a big miss for them.
