@lordmarcovan yours is a silver issue (was also produced in gold). And is Whiting 410. Designer is D. S. Dockler (Daniel S Dockler). His initial is at the bottom of the column.
Thank you. There are times I am wrong, but this is not one of them. BTW, there were two Docklers... father and son. Yours is by the son. And in referencing Whiting, it is preceded by 'slg', and I don't know what that refers to as far as a German word. Perhaps @chrisild will comment.
Did a bit more looking and think slg. is abbreviation for sammlung, which means compendium or collection. This fits in with its context, as this is like a Krauss or Sear number, so this one references a Prof. R. W. Whiting.
I liked C best, but B was a close second (and it helps that it should fit into your standard sized box). If you like the Mongolian coin, there is a PR 70 listed for $66 now (only $7 more than the PR 69), which might be a better value overall. Also, Mongolia has released many different designs in that size (in gold). Sometimes you can catch an eBay auction for even less ($40-$50 range).
Thank you. I'll try to go find that 70-graded coin and watchlist it. I like some of these itty-bitty Mongolian goldies (the trilobites are cool, for example), but Genghis Khan is kind of iconic when one thinks of Mongolia.
I was all in on the Jeton, Rob. Good choice. That scene on the obverse has tons of character, and the psalm clinches it. Nice!
I voted for the Nuremburg. That is a fantastic looking piece! The Hamburg comes in a strong second, IMO.
Actually, I do want another patriotic CWT eventually, since I swapped away my Monitor. I miss that one, but the HTT I got in return is still happily ensconced in my collection.
Just off the phone with PCGS Customer Service. The maximum diameter that will fit inside a PCGS standard holder is 44 mm, or up to 46 mm if the coin is thin. This is good news regarding Item C in the original post- the 42.6 mm 1841 Hamburg bronze medal. Since it will fit in a standard slab, it can have a place in my box, whenever I get around to buying it. It's next on my "to grab" list when some money comes in, if nobody beats me to it.
If I HAD to pick one, it would be the Nuremburg jeton. But honestly, for a "box of 20" type coin, none of these are worthy. I voted to save your money and wait for something else. Although it was a tough choice between that and buy some bacon (if you buy the bourbon to go with the bacon, this is the hands down winner).
My "Eclectic Box" ceased to be a "Box of 20" style collection two and a half years ago. It now has 46 pieces as of this post. As touched upon in Post #9, I got tired of the 20-coin limitation. With all the coins in my Box of 20 being worth $200-2,300, there was no longer any opportunity for me to enjoy the fun, affordable, nice stuff in the <$100 price tier, and I missed that. So I dropped the 20-coin limit in mid-2016 and have let the collection gradually grow ever since, no longer forcing myself to own only $200+ coins. Its just stuff I like, whether it be 2-figure or 3-figure in terms of price. (I have no business with 4-figure coins on my budget.)
I voted for the Hamburg medal but was also tempted by the Nuremburg jeton. I think I would buy both and a slab of bacon...
