You'll should ask for all the label identifiers you think the coin would qualify for.

I expect 5-10 more threads hemming and hawing over it first, before we come to a decision.

The more this OP talks about it, the more trollish it becomes.

OK I'll answer it. IF it is actually a genuine 1942 S struck by the US Mint in a copper nickel alloy instead of the regular 35% silver wartime alloy, then YES you will get your costs back plus a decent profit.

So now send it in and report back the results so that either we or you can eat some crow. There is really no need for further discussion until we get the TPG results.

Hey i have an original bank wrapped roll of 1942-s. With the mint on the side of the memorial on both ends. Can i just put a big stamp on the roll and send it to TPG that way. @bryantallard

I will agree that it "looks" like a nickel-nickel.
But I am in the silver camp.

that is where part of my thought process is. if it were a 43, 44, or 45 then it would be far fetched. however, being the 42's had 2 different planchets is where my head is at.

    San Francisco only struck silver.

So you're postulating somebody came out from Denver or Philly and threw a blank in the hopper...

or... that maybe stock from the previous year might have accidently been left in? I am calling pcgs this afternoon and getting it on its way. that will be that.

Just send it in already. Calling PCGS won’t do anything. You have to either become a member and mail it to them yourself with submission forms, or send it in through a trusted coin dealer.

He doesn't want to send it in. And he never will. He is like that little kid in grade school who fakes autographs on baseballs pretending they were signed by Derek Jeter, claiming he has photographic proof Jeter signed them with him in the photo. He then describes the so-called photograph ad nauseam in terms of what's going on in the photograph, tell stories of reactions from other people he claimed saw it but never have, but it is never ever verified. I swear I feel bad for this guy.

Sorry I lived through the headlines but was not
taking notes along with the dates to refer back to.

...Wait a minute! You have a local pawn shop that is NOT made of silver? The one in my town is made of pure palladium, including the guy who works behind the counter, right down to the tiny palladium gears and pulleys that crease his brows with concern whenever I stroll in with one of MY nickels.

    .....I saw a half-dozen of 'em
    at the ANA last week...........

    .....however, none of them were
    on the wrong pre-war planchets.

Seriously, Bryan; either submit it, find someone else able to do the proper test, or let it go. As much as I can respect your position here, you're doing yourself no favors by dragging this out. There comes in a time when you must either ante up or fold. Unfortunately, you passed this point some time ago.
